Hatred: GOG refuses to sell game; Will be available 3 days early for Steam preorders.

JayD

http://www.gamerampage.net/all/new-screenshots-and-surprise-revealed-for-hatred

Summary:

1. Hatred is a controversial, upcoming, twin-stick, third person shooter game being released on PC. It is the first AO rated game on Steam, also available on Desura.

2. Polish digital gaming store front GOG will disallow the sale of upcoming game Hatred, created by polish developer Destructive Creations, from its website.
3. The irony here is that Hatred was delayed from an earlier May 19th launch because the devs wanted to play Witcher 3. GOG is owned by CD Projekt, the parent company of the developers of Witcher 3, CD Projekt RED.
4. The game will be available on the digital platforms Steam and Desura and players who preordered the game will be able to play it three days earlier than the official release, starting May 29th.

From Destructive Creations' Hatred trailer on April 28, 2015:

We wish to announce Hatred's release date, it's set for June 1st, this year of course. ;)
For 99% it's a final release date, as the game is almost complete at the moment, we're on the final polishing stage. Fun fact is that we wanted to release it on May 19th, but our team will be occupied with playing The Witcher 3 at the time. :D

From the developers when asked on Steam Community if GOG gave a reason:

helepolis1980  [developer] 8 hours ago

The said that the game is good, but "they can't".

So CDPR will sell their game with sex in it, but murdering people is not okay? I bet they all played GTA too.

After seeing some of the intense, fucked up shit in Witcher III (and I mean that as a complement to powerful and awesome writing and storytelling btw) it's a tiny little bit hypocritical, but their they store their call.

Actually there's plenty of damn brutal and bleak depictions of murder and such in Witcher III, you routinely chop off people in half and well there's this:

It's about focus. Witcher 3 doesn't focus on sex the entire game and is thus not a porno. GTA doesn't focus on the aspect of killing people the entire game and is thus not a murder simulator.

That's literally all of what GTA is: killing people and drugs.

This is like the only game I ever told myself: This should not get released.

The only point of the game is to mass murder innocents. That's different from a game like GTA which doesnt prevent you from doing it except with in game solutions aka the cops.

Actually it kinda does: the plot gets kickstarted because Geralt is chasing not adventure, not a cause, but a woman. And arguably he agrees to start the main part of the plot line partially because a girl is asking and several key aspects of the plot revolve around who he's fucking plus he kills monsters and if needed, people for money without any moral objections.

We're talking about a well made, sympathetic but nevertheless sociopathic monster hunter often distracted by his libido.

If GOG isn't comfortable with hatred I'd understand.  To be frank I don't think that hatred should be sold on any platform that isn't capable of determining the age of the users,  and preventing those under 18 from getting it.

And if that's the only reason it's hypocritical: they can't determine if minors are buying Witcher III which is just as worthy of an 18+ only rating if not more so since the violence depictions there are much more powerful than random killing sprees.

CD project didn't develop TW3, CD project red did. Both CD project red and GOG are owned by CD project. However, CD Project Red, the developers of TW3, don't own GOG.

Yes, you can do that since it's a large sandbox open world, but the game doesn't focus on it to the extent that Hatred does. In Hatred, the only single point of the game is to gruesomely kill innocent people with high graphical detail. It's literally a murder simulator.

That Gif--is somewhat hilarious.  I can't lie--that'd be amusing for like five minutes if I found it in game.

Actually no, Trevor it's just as much of a violent sociopath with no remorse or regrets at all and his entire point was just killing people and sometimes eating them. The other characters had somewhat redeemable qualities but they're mostly violent criminals killing people both inside and outside the plot.

In fact like I mention, the fact that Witcher III (and to a lesser extent GTA V) do a more involved version of violence makes more of an impact than random "kill people just because"

Let me put this a different way... You standing outside next to your girlfriend doesn't make it a porno. You taking your girlfriend to a movie doesn't make it a porno. You having sex with your girlfriend doesn't make it a porno. You having sex with her and filming the entire thing so that other people can watch makes it a porno.

The gameplay looks solid. The more attention this game gets, the more I want it. I guess GOG doesn't like money.

Yes, but it's got the same game mechanics as any other game that allows you to murder people, it's just not hiding it.

I feel like this is more of a marketing strategy.

Slick:

I don't care if you are right or wrong... someone will come around and correct you if you are wrong. What people need to realize is that we need to step up as a community and get above the pathetic fights and bickering. Share knowledge, be friendly, enjoy your stay.

He also forgot to mention if you dont know about the topic then dont make stuff up. Dont claim fake or assume things just by reading the title, Read the post. It doesnt matter if you made 3,000 as it could be mostly crap...

Both companies made a porno: one of them with a bit of a plot to it and the other one very hard to watch S&M porn, but both fucking porn nonetheless.

No because there's a story that makes you feel better for killing people in GTA & witcher 3. IMO killing is killing either way someone is dead & GOG is only hurting itself by blocking this game from its consumers. How can you compete with Steam when you refuse to offer a title while the competitor doesn't not good.

That's a shame.  I'll be buying Hatred regardless and would have probably bought it off GOG if it were available.

I don't see how Hatred is any worse than Hotline Miami or Postal, and both are available on GOG.  This is simply a PR move to avoid the SJW backlash.
