I was too hoping that then I would have got a second but at $800 I'd much rather stick it out with tearing and 60hz until an pls/ips comes out.

Hmm,... now that I think about it, I am not so sure I dislike it.

A while back, I was interested in a second 27" monitor, where my main would be the PB278Q.  I was also interested in the 120 Hz refresh rate so that I could use it for certain games that work better with high FPS vs. games that look better with richer colors.  An example would be BF3 Multi Player vs. Metro 2033 Single Player.

I held back because the best 27" 120 Hz monitors were 1080p, and that just makes for a weird experience on the Windows desktop (with 2 different resolutions).  But now with the PG278Q, the resolution of both monitors would be the same.  For the PB278Q, I would have the fantastic brightness and richness of color.  For the PG278Q, I would have a fantastic gaming experience at *any* framerate thanks to G-Sync.  My rig can power 1440p games, but not at 120 FPS, but definitely higher than 60 FPS (2x 680s).

I will have to ponder about this some more. . .

Got a PB278Q a few months ago, I will have to see this in person before I make the jump. But 1440P & G-Sync....sign me up.

$599 sounds like a more fair price imo.

1440P and G-Sync *AND* 120 Hz. ;)

Game can float around 70-90 FPS and still look good.

Interesting we are beginning to see 24" 4k panels, but no 1440p 24" panels...No doubt Asus will have an IPS version out soon.

Even though the display is 120Hz. Since it's G-sync enabled, could I run my game smooth at under 60 FPS?

I will. Just hate the fact that they couldn't have taken the extra step and included VA on the damn thing...

It's the first one... It will come in due time.

Yep it will be smooth from 30Fps up to 120Fps.

But will it be as smooth on 30FPS, as it will be on 120FPS?

Expensive as hell, though that is to be expected with all those features.  It would interest me if it were a IPS or PLS panel, but I have no interest in buying another TN panel monitor. I do like that the 1440p monitor market is seeing some nice growth though, the massive popularity of the cheap Korean monitors has really pushed that resolution.
