1050ti vs RX580 8gb

title says it all really, but...

My use case for the GPU is mainly 3d design, with occasional gaming on the side. At the moment, I have a 1050ti which is meh ok at cad, and fine in games. 

I'm looking to upgrade to an 8gb card for more silky graphics and effects in cad, and was wondering if the rx580 would be an alright card to use for this. 

I'm not really too sure what cad favours in terms of clocks or cuda cores, and the websites are SUPER helpful at telling you what they want. (sarcasm)

the rx 580 8 GB is better in most scenarios with the exception of programs that can only utlize Cuda

What kind of 3D design are we talking here? Like solid works, Catia and stuff? 

Because that gpu is more than fine for that. What about the cpu? 

 

580 is a shit ton faster though generally.

Solid-works and sketchup mainly, but making pretty big things with lots of claddings on them to make them look nice for customers .

Neither Solidworks nor Sketchup as far as I can tell really benefit from having anything more powerful than a 1050 as the 3D Display. They tend to be more CPU relaint (even in renders) They tend to be more reliant on high speed single core for a majority of the functions (day to day modeling practices) and then as much CPU horsepower as possible for renders

Lately with some of the projects that I was working on, moving around the model would cause a lot of stuttering, and materials would take a while to load in, but the CPU usage was only around 20% and the gpu was pretty high

It's dependent on Single core performance. So one core (two threads) is maxed out ,while the other three cores take a vacation. It's unfortunately the way programs like Solidworks and Inventor were first programmed back before multi core CPU's were common.

Quite obviously the 580 since, 1, it's THE budget 3D modelling card and 2, it kicks the 1050 Ti's ass

Definitely get the RX580 8GB, it competes more directly with the GTX 1060 6GB so it's going to be a lot better than the 1050Ti.
