Thinking of upgrading air cooler

I'm using a ryzen 5 1500x with the stock fan right now, and I'm hoping to get a new fan, and I like the H7 and pure rock as options for cooling, and maybe dabbling into overclocking. Is one of the two markedly better? Are there better options? (I hate the look of the Mugen fans)

dark rock should be better and I assume you mean cooler not fan.

I'm planning on upgrading my 1500x's cooler from stock, to try overclocking, and make it runq uieter. I'm using it in a b350 PC Mate. i like the look of the Cryorig H5 Universal, Cryorig H7, and the Be Quiet! pure/shadow rock coolers. Anyone have numbers on these coolers or a reccomendation? How do they compare to the corsair single fan rad? Also, I want clean lines, as I hate the look of the Scythe Mugen and Co.

Get the H5, They perform better than any 140mm AIO and are super easy to install. The Be Quiet coolers are a nightmare to install. I have the Cryorig R1, H5, and C7, I cannot recommend their products enough. You'll be very happy with it.

Perfect.  Is there a difference between ultimate and universal H5's?  Are they quiet?

They are very quiet. Cryorig coolers come with 4-pin PWM fans so you can control their exact RPM, meaning even less noise from your system. The H5 Universal allows for full tall RAM compatibility. This is done by having the cooler slightly offset and with a slim fan. The H5 ultimate is not offset and comes with a full sized 140mm fan that will block the first RAM slot, but only for tall RAM. Below is a pic of my system. If you have 2 stick of RAM then clearance is not an issue. It is only a problem with 4 sticks of RAM.

great thanks! Going to be using it with 2 sticks of ram in a msi b350 PC Mate, so it should be fine to use the big one since theyre the same price

No, the H5 Ultimate performs slightly worse than 140mm AIO's in most benchmarks.

Shadow Rock coolers can be a pain to install indeed but have you installed a Pure Rock? It's as easy if not easier to install as most of Cryorig's coolers.

They're fairly quiet but not nearly as quiet as any of BeQuiet!'s coolers.

They should either come with the AM4 bracket already or you can get it free from Cryorig with proof of purchase.

Have you tried oc'ing with the stock cooler first? Is the current cooler too noisy?

If the coolers mentioned so far are the only ones you like the looks of and you want the most performance, the H5 Ultimate would be the best option.
