People see them as credible source??

You see how they worked with that Video, so there is really no reason to trust them at all...

You know that they don't do their job or read the damn manuals...

I think The Verge's credibility took a sizeable hit from the community, this really isn't needed.  Not that it's water under the bridge but they learned their lesson pretty I think.  Even if what's his face rants in video games to people, he still knows.  We know, they know, it's done.

(btw, use apostrophes.  I went looking for what I thought was the Verges Credibility philosophy thing, like a dumbass ;( )

The little I've noticed from them is that they're a pretty standard blog about tech stuff, nothing remarkable.

I have also notice that in 100% of the cases where there's a controversy attached to them, their political leanings are brought into question by at least some people while the rest of the people who create this "controversies" that might not mention it seem to create tremendously huge issues out of otherwise fairly innocuous stuff.

I am forced to conclude that people into tech have a very self evident political leaning and that they punish any outlet that goes against their preconceived notions regardless of the issue at hand because they simply considered part of the "X media" (X implies a political leaning btw) and this is just an example of "thing-I-do-not-like/crazy-conspiracy"

But was it when the internet was such a big influence as today and could the news be spread as easily? ( just out of  curiosity, what show was it? I enjoy watching the discovery channel.)

The Verge is a crapshoot. I'm not saying they're incapable of making something good and credible, I'm just saying you can't tell the difference between a skip fire and The Verge if it weren't for the logo.

This isn't about tech really, just in general.

I feel the same way.

I think the problems are:

1) The writers at the Verge are just a step up from the average consumer. They know how to download apps from the app store and they know how to read the specs on the back of a box, but that's about as far as their knowledge goes. That's alright for gauging how my mom might like a phone on a purely subjective way, but for reviews I prefer some deeper analysis than that.

2) There are so many writers over there that the same device could potentially get very different ratings depending on who got assigned to reviewing it. A great example of this is when they in one article bashed the Note for being too big and couldn't be used with one hand. Then a little while later a review of the iPhone Plus came out and said it was so good because it was big. The reason? Well, either Apple bias (which The Verge has quite a lot of) or because two different people reviewed the phones and they have different preferences.

In recent memory, it was an animation about rifling. They showed the entire cartridge traveling down the length of the barrel instead of just the projectile. i'll post it below.

I think the Verge is fine. Just like any publication, they make mistakes and have to retract statements. They do have some videos that are weird and make you wonder why they thought that was a good topic to make a video about but for mainstream tech news and reviews, they do a fine job. No better or worse than other publications. Maybe a bit shallow in depth but, for the most part, nothing glaringly inaccurate or blatantly false.

It's also worth noting though that if you're on a tech forum like LTT, chances are you aren't the Verge's main target audience.

I mean... what's right with it?

This doesn't even try to be remotely balanced, it just takes a scoop of presumed social theory and parrots it out in application to the show. Pure burning garbage is an apt description.

Just another in the long list media "critics" who seem incapable of actually enjoying media that doesn't touch on enough political issues that would raise it to the profile of "important".

I actually think the world would be much better if we created a channel called the "cereal channel" which would just display people of all races, genders, ages etc eating various types of cereal and saying nothing. Whenever anyone complains incessantly about pointless issues over and over, their television is forced to only play the cereal channel.

When these people still bust their balls to find some kind of ridiculous connection between the people eating the cereal and the actual cereal it is, it should become pretty clear how ridiculous the whole thing is.

I mean there was genuine rascism being hurled at the guy, and that isn't acceptable. The key is that they branded all the criticism as non-constructive harassment which is utter non-sense.

Owning mistakes and making an effort to reach out to the community to correct them would have killed this meme on its feet. Instead the Verge doubled down and acted like elitists, setting themselves as the baseline by which all other bad PC building practices will be compared.

Own worst enemy...

The problem is that there WAS racism... of course, that doesn't excuse the poor quality of the video, but it's not like they pulled it out of thin air.
