My parents are fine with me doing whatever I please in the house, I even offered to pay £10 a month towards the house bill but they said I should keep it for my own future.

Still, the thought of the bill being increased because of me is quite daunting, even if it is no more than £10 a month extra.

Well think that as a donation for a good cause.

You can give £10 for a some organization that claims to help some great cause with your money. But in reality only something like £2 of that money goes to the cause and £8 goes for that organizations own expenses.

With folding you can choose what research you support and how much. You pay for electricity and the researcher get what they need, computing power. There isn't some middleman taking 80% your donation for their own uses.

Unfortunately I've had to pull the plug on Folding for now, I've been really pleased by the stability of my system but the power usage has hit the bill pretty hard. I'll probably fire it up again towards the end of the month. Goodbye 15th! ?

Ooo not bad,

Going from that frequently it's watercooled? Also what issue are you having with that 980ti?

Thanks for your support

Also try folding at the lowest power-limit supported by your card. Testing 1060s I found a 40% reduction in power only translated to a 15% decrease in yield.

Both the GTX 1060s are 6GB models, the one that is in my Windows "Daily Driver" is a short-board. Both tend to run at a 2025MHz clock speed. The Windows version, however, also drives 3 x 24" 1080p displays.

The other interesting observation is the mix of WU performance from Worst (11718) to best (11720/11728) is pretty consistent across the GTX cards but on the RTX we see that though the 11730 is the best performer the 11718 is still the worst and while the 11726 has improved the 11720 and 11728 have degraded.

Though were not dealing with a really big sample size I think it's safe to say that the 11718 does not have a reasonable base points value and this should have been caught while it was in Beta but was not.

I suspect the differences between the GTX and RTX results may have to do with the mix of Integer, Single and Double Precision calculations and changes in Turing's architecture that allow concurrent execution of Integer and Floating-Point operations.

Lol. Learned that because of foldings mislabeling of my gpus when I have multiple in a system that when you delete a slot and restart the computer after taking it out it deletes both WU's and gives you a fresh one when you start again... But all just jumbling things around maybe we'll see an increase in PPD coming soon...

I HAVE HAD AN EPIPHANY.

Wait I just realized this won't work.

I was gonna say I can run my 750 Ti with a PCIe riser once my two cards get here, but that will leave the bottom two cards (1080 and 750 Ti) running in 4x, which will bottleneck the 1080. So... Never mind, I can't lol. I'd rather have a fully functional 1080 than 80k PPD from a 750 Ti lol

For a 750ti if you could get a riser cable to run it in 1x that probably wouldn't bottle neck it if you have the connection to spare.

I wonder if linus could boot up the 8 workstations build and fold with that? Got to be a few million PPD in that rig!

Considering that he is having trouble getting that thing to even load all 8 VMs there is no way he will be able to just put windows on it and run it with all 8 on 1 vm even. But there are still the current editor workstation which all have x99 boards and titan xps and quadros I think that just sit there at night not doing anything...

Also, on this episode of "I wish I could say this is photo-shopped but it isnt" or "Lol I fucking wish, but I know F@H is just tripping mad balls after I paused it while I tested some things"

Unfortunately I've had to pull the plug on Folding for now, I've been really pleased by the stability of my system but the power usage has hit the bill pretty hard. I'll probably fire it up again towards the end of the month. Goodbye 15th! ?

Thanks for participating this far. And definitely look into undervolting gpu's to do it for the future or keep a low amount of folding power going long term if you can. Also one strategy is to set up folding in a room you would likely use a heater for anyways so that maybe you don't have to as much. But we will see you next time around.

Lol. Learned that because of foldings mislabeling of my gpus when I have multiple in a system that when you delete a slot and restart the computer after taking it out it deletes both WU's and gives you a fresh one when you start again... But all just jumbling things around maybe we'll see an increase in PPD coming soon...

Been there, done that - whoops! Learnt the hard way that the most opportune time to swap hardware is to look for a time when all the GPUs are set to finish around the same time and click "Finish"
