Buy Brainwaves HM5 Angled Ear pads for them

Cheap: https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Memory-Angled-Cushion-Cover/dp/B07BKSW8GF/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1538265062&sr=8-4&keywords=hm5+angled+earpads

Oem: https://www.amazon.com/Brainwavz-Angled-Memory-Foam-Earpad/dp/B01G567THO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1538265062&sr=8-1&keywords=hm5+angled+earpads

Either should work fine best upgrade you can do for yourself.  They will help with the isolation & comfort will increase greatly.  They also help with the soundstage.  Low end is improved as well.

Fat side of the pad behind the ear and your good to go.

I keep my hd600's in the box they came in whenever I am not using them. I like to use a lint roller on the ear pads every now and then to keep them clean. Once a year or so I take off the the ear pads and headband cushion to hand wash them with diluted detergent. Dry everything thoroughly and watch a YouTube video before taking anything apart. Store the cables well.. never kink or over stress the cables or the connectors.

Basically, if you are't using them, then put them away properly. If you are using them, then try to keep everything clean.

don't wrap the cable round the headphones or put any unnecessary stress on the terminating ends and you'll be fine I have the 50 x and they haven't showed any signs of failure plus they come with detachable cables with replacements which helps not sure if the 40s are the same. Anyway if the 40s are as good as the 50s enjoy :) I'm loving the sound quality of mine, makes me appreciate music more than ever.

Cable is likely the weakest point if mishandled.

So like said above try to avoid tight bending stresses on it and especially near connectors.

Also depending on cable length try to make sure that cable isn't falling to floor as big loop.

Would be pretty easy to get that loop caught on something/step on it.

Of course use both hands to take them off from head and set them on table gently etc, instead of just pulling with one hand and dropping them to table.
