Best use for a secondary PC

Hook up to the living from TV for some couch gaming or steamlink if your current pc is way more powerful.

Firstly, specs:

i5 6400

4gb DDR4

1TB WD blue

500w PSU

RX 480 4gb

 

So I bought a bunch of parts for my girlfriend to build a PC to play games on, but since she's moving into a college campus she'll have poor internet with things like Steam naturally blocked. She likely wouldn't be using it much in college either since she has a decent laptop for doing work so I want to re purpose this PC.

 

I don't want to sell it, but if I do I'll likely put it on on some classifieds as parts but I'd really like to find some use for it, any suggestions?

give it to your brand new friend, hi new friend xD

 

why would the campus block steam? 

also you could toss some more storage in, put in raid and make a server. IDK it depends on what you like to do

My PC now is more than capable for gaming, the only use would be a gaming machine for when I visit family, which seems a little redundant

I do pay, I was considering this but since I do prepay power it would feel like it's costing me a fortune

i don't know about where op is at, but my college didn't block steam...

Like others have said, make a linux box and mess around with different distros or projects for funsies. When I get time I'm gonna do that with one of my extra PCs.

Ireland, they block Steam because people tend to download their whole steam library with the insane speeds so they stopped that

that's ridiculous! I wouldn't even bother going to a college that tells me what I can or can't do with my own PC

I always use my laptop to listen to music and watch videos and stuff so I don't have to minimize my game on my main PC to change songs/videos or something, although that seems somewhat like a bit under useful for another desktop. . .

 

Do you have a friend who doesn't have a good PC? You could lend it out. . .

It's on campus, there is plenty of cheaper places around to stay in

but they shouldn't have any choice in what i do on the internet unless they own the computer. Your tuition pays for the internet, and I'm not going to pay for restricted internet. If they provide internet, it should be full internet, period

If they advertise "High speed internet included" then yes, but if the Internet isn't mentioned then that would be complimentary. In my opinion.
