Stock Intel CPU Cooler Is Ok For Non "K" ones?

Hello people,

Im building a PC currently and i have a question. Im currently thinking about saving some money by not buying a CPU cooler for i5-8500 or i5-8400 (currently didnt pick which one i will go with) since intel's stock cpu cooler is included with those CPUs but is it worth doing that? Is it necessary to buy a CPU cooler for non "K" Intel CPUs?

The stock one is fine, just a bit loud.

The stock Intel cooler is adequate when you don't have any plans to overclock your CPU (although in your case OC is not possible ;)).

The only downside is that performance and sound won't be ideal. You will definitely have some higher temperatures and louder noise when using Intel's stock coolers.

However, if the sound really bothers you, you can easily upgrade your cooler further down the line.

i5 yes i7 no.

 

Have in mind while the stock cooler is sufficient for the i5 8400 you'll have a jet engine sound coming from it whenever it's been really used... I had an i7 6700 with the stock cooler and i still have nightmares with its bloody sound.

Do yourself a favor and buy something like the CryOrig m9i. They're like $18, and will be worlds better than the stock cooler.

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo is indeed a very solid choice. Another alternative would be the Cryorig H7.

i7s can get toasty under heavy loads. But that's about it. Some say these coolers are loud, but that's case-by-case thing. Literally. Some also say 212 EVO is loud. I say that old Noctua U9B is loud.
