I say: let Microsoft makes its phone, let it have some level of success, so that it stops thinking it would be irrelevant in a few years. The end result is that they'll start to focus on polishing things, instead of experimenting aggressively internally which is reducing the available resources to Windows and other Microsoft products. How's that? :)

Well, there's one thing that needs improving. BATTERY LIFE. RIP my old Nokia that I'd throw in my pocket and not worry about it for like a week. Also, bring removable batteries back.

Well you just tickled my fancy. Not to mention if this turns out half decent others might follow and I can get my flip phone back I have been desperately wanting. Then Motorola can bring back the RAZR in some form and we might get some partly original designs from companies again.

 lol I was just being a bit facetious though if I am being honest.

If they can get 'full' windows on a phone, even if just a 'regular' single screen phone and have the same design methodology as the surface devices I would be in.  Though the dual screen seems enticing I tend to avoid first generation products like that.  Though just having Microsoft seemingly being the phone space is exciting.

By the way, this seems like a god awful idea. 

Innovation is about solving problems. Yes, there are plenty of inventions to come. My point is that people need to tone down expectations of new iterations of phones and the "lack of inovation"

It is just a concept picture of the supposed "Surface Phone" made by someone based on the simplistic pictures in MS patents. Not the Dell or actual "Surface Phone". In my opinion, it will be more a phone that can flip open another screen on the side, so you have screen back and front, but the back screen is turned off when flipped on the back.

I like the way when it comes to putting windows on any portable device like a phone or even just talk about MS trying to stay in the phone market and half this forums goes off its nut like its a bad Idea and MS need to die already.    I can't think the last time having less choice and competition in a 2 horse market was a bad thing.    I say bring it on, obviously the market research is telling them there is a need for windows on phone like devices otherwise companies would keep toying with the idea and trying to make it work.  

 

The mobile computing market is a very hard one to break into,  Particularly phones. Something like 18 Major companies sold or dissolved their mobile business due to the market being hard, companies as big as Siemens, Sagem and Ericsson for example.  It is of no surprise that making a classic x86 platform work effortlessly inside a much smaller ARM environment is going to be enough of a challenge on it's own without considering the market dynamics they have to overcome as well.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

I’m for additional competition on the smartphone market as well. It’s been dominated far too long by the 2 major players. Having a new (large) player would indeed spice things up a bit and would bring a lot of benefits for the consumers.

Well that didn't take long. I guess excitement is indeed in the air.

 

VLC is now available in ARM64 native - official version.

https://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

 

Just click on the down arrow on the orrange button and pick "ARM64"

You'll get the VLC desktop app, but for Windows 10 on ARM, running natively for full performance on the system.

 

This highlights the ease of compiling for the new platform.
