Savage Jerky Price Increase

Just a heads up that Savage Jerky's new bags have smaller portions for almost the same cost. I've been ordering from them since the very first LTT sponsor spot but I may not anymore.

 

In January, I paid $7.99 per bag for the beef jerky (bacon seems unchanged) and got 3 oz bags.

This month, I paid $6.99 per bag and they are 2.2 oz.

 

The cost has gone from about $2.66 per ounce to $3.18 per. The jerky was already expensive but now it's about 20% MORE expensive.

 

To make matters worse, there was no indication of this change on the product page. If you didn't remember the portion size, you would not have known. It does show the size in the cart, but after a dozen orders, I didn't pay attention to the ounces listed there. I figured I knew what I was ordering. When it arrived, the bags were noticeably lighter, so I checked my order history and saw the bags have been made smaller.

 

I thought this change seemed shady because it doesn't jump out at you. Prior to this, I've had nothing but great experiences with the company. Their customer service was fantastic and quick to resolve the only issue I ever had, with the end result being a free bag of jerky.

This likely means I'll never order it again. It was already ridiculously expensive for a Canadian to buy it - with US to CAD conversion, and then shipping charges on top of that.

I have my own cows so I am good. I make pounds of jerky and just eat it. I could be making a killing I guess

Unfortunate, but I don't see it as underhanded or anything. They're more than welcome to change stuff like that at their prerogative, given that it's their brand. As long as the product is the same as they list on their site, it's perfectly fine. One has to wonder if they're struggling a little and are trying to find ways to increase revenue. A lower price attached to the product could help if it's higher than comparative offerings.

They did ship to my country in Europe but I guess not every country is on the list. The shipping costs are monstrous though, I have ordered one as an experiment and ended up paying for shipment double of what I paid for the jerky.

 

As for the Reaper - I have tried one, unfortunately spicy isn't my thing. After trying that one hiccups started uncontrollably so I never tried again. The traditional is nice though, too bad logistics are such pain in the ass and wallet.

This is done to protect the actual chips from significant damage.  a bag of chips can't be packed like a bag of rice.  Believe me, if you could sell a smaller chip bag with the same volume, it'd save significantly on shipping.  Chips are light but with so much space being air (Nitrogen actually) they take up a LOT of space, relatively, to ship and that increases costs.

INB4 someone points out pringles and other crisps packaged in harder packages, and completely ignoring how that costs more for the raw materials and to ship as it would be more heavy.

Also, since Pringles are made from a paste and put into 'chip shape' using a machine die process, they're more expensive to manufacture than sliced potatoes.

 

Of course all of that is why Pringles COST more.
