GPU Temprature shows 99% in afterburner

z0neGOD

Hi everybody, So I have quite a few problems with my Laptop. Its a old but strong PC. Specs are:

-GeForce GT 540M

-Intel Core i7 2630QM (2nd Gen)

-Ram:4GB DDR3

-500 GB of space

-Windows 7 64bit

Anyway so I used to play CS:GO on highest resulution and fps wouldnt go under 100.

Though as I got experienced i went to play 4:3 on 800x600 and fps went nicely up.

So I played oneday with no problems, then the next day after Went into  a game and see values like 30-50 fps. Its really frustating and I have no idea what the problem is.

Tried everything restarting, uninstalling the game, even gave it to service and there was no dust inside they said and they put thermal paste agian. Still no difference.

I put every setting on the pc to performance and play on high performance while playing. These days I play 640x480 stretched and to be honest not too bad but black lines and stuff is visible asf.

The thing I noticed also is when I enter a game I get around 120 fps. Played yesterday saw 230 fps on Mirage map. But in 5 mins of gameplay/time it goes 100, 80, 70, and stays at values between 50-60 fps. Sometimes I see even 30 fps...

Saw in afterburner that the gpu temp reached 99 and is stable at 99 degrees. EDİT: Also i noticed that it gets heated fast. Even when im using a cooler under the laptop.

What is the problem? I have no idea. Hopefully you guys can help me.

Thanks in advance.

Well the laptop is overheating, so try to cool it down a bit.

What i have done for my old laptop is that i turned vsync on, that way the laptop only renders 60fps, and doesn't heat up fast, because it only uses about half the gpu power all the time, instead of using all of it for a few moments and then thermal throtteling.

FPS flies around when playing CS:GO. You just do the best you can for the spec you're running. Different maps vary the FPS wildly too, that is a major factor.

Probably gaming or helping technophobes with tech...

Temps stuck at temps that high is clearly thermal throttling, cauaed by dried thermal paste. This worsens heat transfer between the GPU and cooling, which makes it get hot much easier.

The only way to do ot is open it up and reapply the thermal paste. Make sure you wipe off the old ones with some rubbing alcohol. Might as well do that for the CPU as well while you're at it.

Yes I used to play the old dust2 (rip) minumum 100 fps which was so great! New dust2 cut the fps by 30-40 fps. Really sad that they changed the normal d2 since It was the best.  I mainly play and can only play cahce and mirage.

Are you're fans cleaned? and cause it's older it uses more power, make sure to have the laptop high enough the heat gets out.

I would suggest again to clean the thermal paste with some alcohol and make sure it is all cleaned up from the cooler and at the chip, that it shines. If it is still happening it could be problem with the chip itself, maybe it is not getting enough power(never experienced with GPU but with CPU).

Thankyou I will give it a try tomorrow. Hopefully the paste will do the job.

yes, went to a pc servis turns out the laptops hinge is broken and they say they have to fix it unless if they open the pc it wont be able to close agian. The hinge replacement costs double the pc cleanup+paste. Currently I have a web page project which I have to finish until monday so will do it after that time. Just thinking for my self is it worth it?  have no other choise doe.

hinge? I don't even think he PC itself is worth it anymore. if you have so many problems why not get a cheap PC for like $500 with a GTX1050M, so you can still play many games better (like 10x better) than that old junk could. unless you want a desktop.

hinge? I don't even think he PC itself is worth it anymore. if you have so many problems why not get a cheap PC for like $500 with a GTX1050M, so you can still play many games better (like 10x better) than that old junk could. unless you want a desktop.

yo sorry for the very late response lol, yeah i skipped doing that going for a desktop build.
