(Might be too late) but your fine, the movie doesn't really go in depth about him, it's a good movie btw :)

Yeah, but if you didnt see the latest Thor film, you may be slightly lost at the beginning anyway.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

You’re fine. A large chunk of the movie does take place in Wakanda, but as long as you have a vague idea of who Black Panther is, that’s pretty much enough to get by.

Uhm... what?

Infinity War relies on at least general knowledge of at least half a dozen of the most recent MCU movies.

If you go in only having seen an MCU movie here and there, you’re gonna be confused as fuck and will not understand most of the plot.

This isn’t “standalone” like Spider-Man homecoming or Iron Man 2.

None of which actually has anything to do with the plot though. While he is awesome in the movie, his role isn’t particularly big or important.

Likewise what films should I watch before this one to get the full scope of the infinity stuff?

I've only seen Guardians of the Galaxy 1&2, and all the X men and Wolverine ones but those don't have anything to do with this.

I would say:

Captain America 1, 2

Iron Man 1

Avengers 1

And if you can spare the time:

Thor 1, 3

Doctor Strange

Spider-Man

Watch this:

As someone who has seen all the MCU films I can attest that it summarizes MCU well enough.

Once you've seen this, you can relax and watch the best MCU movies. My personal list:

Tier 1: Iron Man, The Avengers, Thor Ragnarok, Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain America: Civil War

Tier 2: Captain America Winter Soldier, Doctor Strange, Guardian of the Galaxy 2, Spider-Man Homecoming

Tier 3: Avengers Age of Ultron, Thor, Captain America The First Avenger, Iron Man 2

Tier 4: Thor the Dark World, Ant-Man, Iron Man 3, The Incredible Hulk

Keep in mind it's not about the relevance of the history shown in the movies but mostly personal preference. I would (and have) rewatch the shit out of Tier 1 but haven't had the motivation to do the same with Tier 4. It also doesn't mean that Tier 4 are bad movies - Ant-Man, for instance, was met with a rather warm welcome but for some reason the superhero himself is of less interest to me.

The Incredible Hulk should technically not even be on that list if it weren't for the post-credit scene.

I was a little underwhelmed at Infinity War. They tried to cram too much in to little time. And that I find a little annoying. It feels like you missed half the movie after seeing it, just because of what they crammed into those 2 hours.

Well yes its a marvel action movie, all the "heros" are there but again, I think either it should have been longer or they should have thrown out less informative stuff to fill it with things they hold short.

But this is only my opinion. The end just makes me feel like the movie wasn't done.

Main System:

With the Blake Panther movie you were introduced to Wakanda and the internal civil war (effectivley), however that's not really needed to be known going into Infinity War. You might be confused about how OP their tech is; that is explained in the Black Panther movie but it's not a deal breaker for Infinity War

Avengers 4 will definitely be a direct sequel.

The main reason they stopped calling it "Infinity War Part 2" was because they were worried that it would take away attention from this one. They apparently had that issue w/ Age of Ultron, since Infinity War was announced around the time Ultron was hitting theatres.

But there is no doubt that Avengers 4 is Infinity War part 2.

This movie was never going to live up to the hype people were giving it. But I thought it was excellent and well done all things considered.

I quite enjoyed the fact that

Spoiler

Marvel didn't pull the punches, like people were expecting. They straight up killed like 4 main level characters before the big finale. And then another ~10 or so died at the end.

People were thinking that Marvel was going to go "Disney" on the movie and either resurrect/save the dead people by the end, or just not even kill anyone important. I'm glad they didn't do this.

Yes the Game of Thrones way running that movie was nice.

I'll disagree with you about the ending. It felt exactly like it was: a cliffhanger ending to a 2-part movie series.

I mean, what exactly did you expect after? What would you have "added"? (please use spoiler tags)

No need for a spoiler tag, because I won't go into detail.

I just think the wait for part two with such an open end is hm... bad. It could have been a little better rounded up... Hinting at what to come. Or split it up into more Movies, like Infinity war 1-3 or 1-4 with putting in a little more into each teamup...

This kind is ok if you won't have to wait another 1-3 years for the next Avengers.

Avengers 4 is 2019. We only have to wait a year. It's no different from a season ending cliffhanger on GOT, etc.

I don't think it needed any hints for the next movie. I would actually be pissed if they gave away hints at the next movie - it would spoil it.

Yes but Avengers 4 is pretty much the conclusion to Phase 3. They are being very tight lipped about anything to do with Phase 4.

The main reason is because anything they say about Phase 4 could give spoilers to Avengers 4 (or even Infinity War).
