Dell’s Crazy Fast Ultrabook – XPS 13 (2018)

AlexTheGreatish

This ultrabook seems good, but is it worth getting over something like the LG Gram or the HP Spectre?

Ah the XPS brand seems great until you look at customer reviews

Such as? I haven't seen many complaints regarding the XPS 13/15s of recent years.

Depends on your budget, but I'd probably go for the LG Gram with an i5 and touch screen.

Really well made video, how many outtakes are there of Linus trying to catch things without looking?

Keep experimenting with formats like with this one and the S9/S9+ review.

That was the first try actually, the whole A-Roll was pretty much one take, aside from one little part around the middle where he broke out laughing.  Normally there are some mistakes that need to get covered up in editing but this one went super smooth.

speak for yourself ._. I don't mind having it in a pinch

I don't mind the functionality either.

I mind the fact that it requires a glossy screen, which adds reflections, on-screen dirt, weight, cost and power consumption.

You're a fucking weirdo for liking touchscreens on laptops, Linus.

Stop pretending like anyone apart from you wants them.

Have you used one for an extended period of time?  I didn't think I'd want one until I used a touch screen laptop for a while and now I can't go back.  Also Lenovo offers matte finish touch screens.

I have and the only times I found myself wanting to use the touchscreen was when I was beyond fed up with the terrible trackpad; I've never had the desire to use a touchscreen on a laptop when the trackpad wasn't garbage.

That's pretty cool. Maybe the meme of Linus dropping things should be retired now.

Boooooo. Did they show up as two different GPU's? I wonder if it's a driver level limitation.

The driver software just started freaking out, so one would show up for a second, then unload, and then the other would show up, and so on.  With Nvidia GPUs you can get two hooked up at the same time pretty easily but SLI explicitly won't work.

Hmmm. Maybe the two ports aren't actually individuals? Maybe they are tied together which causes the bandwidth the go nuts. Does the old PCIE hack still work for nvidia gpus where you could run SLI on 2x PCIE?

I think the bandwidth is tied together but it's something in the drivers that break it.  For Nvidia the chipset won't allow SLI, even if you have a big ass SLI bridge between the two

Do they still do certifications of motherboards? That might be part of the problem. Would be interesting to see if old HyperSLI could get around it but I have no idea how those old drivers would react to external GPU's.

Not for an extended period of time, no, but even if I had used it for a long time and even if it hadn't been a horrible little wobbly Windows convertible, I don't think I'd warm up to touchscreens.

The trackpad is closer to the keyboard, which is the input device I'm using most of the time, and -when I have to use a pointing device- it's less work to pivot my wrist to the trackpad and make a small movement with my finger instead of raising my entire hand and making a much larger movement with it.
