60Hz-75Hz IPS or 144Hz TN?

Hey guys

I'm looking for another monitor for working and casual gaming.

Most of the time I need it for work so I maybe play once a week or less.

So I don't really know if I should go for a 144Hz monitor because I'm not sure if there is any benefit for it while coding or writing/reading documents.

I also consider to use this monitor for a computer without a dedicated graphics card for some time, because I stopped playing that much and consider to get a mainboard with onboard graphics and selling my GTX 1070 as the prices are good for that right now.

 

I'd like to have

- decent colours

- 350cdm

- 24" - 27"

- 1080p or 1440p

Budget is 350 USD

144hz or 4k wont be a charm on your integrated graphics... Keep your 1070 and get a 4k one if you are working most of the time

What games do you play? If you mostly play fast paced shooter games and don't mind worse colors and viewing angles, go for a 144hz monitor (though without at least a 1060 for med/low or 1070 for high, you won't be able to drive it very well). If you want great colors, go for a solid 1080p60 IPS panel, or a budget 1440p.

really depends on the games you play, if you play fast, snappy games like CS:GO then the 144Hz is the by far better option but if you play pretty games that dont need split second reaction times like BDO then the IPS is going to be MUCH nicer

I played Project Reality and Squad. But mostly games like 0 A.D. that can be played without a graphics card lol

get a 60Hz 1080p or 1440p monitor then. I play ARMA 3, which is similar to squad, and 60hz is just fine.

Get the 1440p IPS then.

well i dont really know how fast those shooters are, but id probably go for the IPS or if you can find a nice like 100Hz VA panel that would be a nice middleground but the 75Hz IPS is probably what id go for, 60-75 Hz works just fine for shooters as well, its just that 144Hz is extremely nice to have if you play shooters

should probably also mention i have been playing among the top 10 world teams in Paladins with a 73Hz 1440p 32" panel so anything goes really

You won't be playing Squad for sure on integrated graphics and i'm fairly certain the same is true for Project Reality.

If you want to play Squad 'reasonably' then perhaps sell the 1070 and get a 1060 3GB card second hand as a doable middle ground?
