1060 6GB enough for 1080p 100Hz?

Rocking a 8400 with 2x8 3000MHz RAM

Well I play games like Minecraft (with shader pack) and probably some more intensive titles like GTA V , and emulators like CEMU

well I am a little greedy , if I want max settings most of the time, can 1060 6gb still able to do it?

not really... you'd want a 1070/980 Ti to keep above 100fps all the time on ultra. My 980 Ti keeps that pretty easily in most games, I'd imagine a 1060 couldn't handle it though.

You can probably run max settings for most games. I have a 960 and it can run max settings in a few games but the FPS is low so I keep them at medium. Don't expect to see 100FPS in PUBG though. More like 25-45 at best.

You might not constantly get the full 100 fps but it would defiantly be a good experience.

If you're like me and constantly look at the fps to see if you're fully utilizing your monitors refresh rate, I would go for a 1070 or 1070ti.

How about if I OC the 1060? Can it somehow competes with the 1070?

You'll get closer but you still wont reach that level of performance.

Sure, why not. But how many fps you will get, is another question. But 100 Hz will work, why wouldn't it? That depends on Monitor, and has NOTHING to do with fps.

If you rock a GTX 1060 6gb, and max settings, then on some games you might hit 60 fps~, in some light, very good optimized games (like Doom) you might hit 100+ fps.

In other games, you will struggle to keep 40 fps.

Rise of the Tomb raider, a 2-3 year old game. Everything maxed out (and that includes SSAAx4 instead FXAA), you will get 30-35 fps~.

So yea, it works. But how much fps do YOU expect?

Let me tell you something, in a german forum, there's someone i know, he has a Titan X Pascal, OCed to 2025 Mhz. He can play GTA 5 on 1080p, and max every single setting there is, and he gets 22 fps.

Or, when he just changes Anti Aliasing setting, he can play it in 4k and 90+ fps.

Don't be stupid. Learn how to use Graphic settings, that's what they are made for. Some settings will send your fps down to Hell, and will maybe look 0-1% better, if you can even see any difference (1080p is not a sharp resolution. many "Ultra" details are completely lost there.

Don't aim for Ultra. Aim for "High" max. That's the Eyecandy / Performance sweet spot ;-)

Edit: If you expect 100 fps on maxed out settings in 1080p in every game.. Wait 5-10 years. Currently, there is no GPU available, with enough performance for that.

Ok. Thank you for your time replying this long paragraph , certainly appreciate it!

As you have said ultra details are lost in 1080p , so I might go for high settings. I am still wondering if 1060 can give 100fps for high settings though

That is quite a bit of exaggeration, PUBG goes at about 90 fps Max setting on my 1060+i5-8400

I know minecraft doesn't get the best FPS with shaders, depending on the shaders you use.  But I use the sonic shaders and my FPS dips down to ~30 when in dark areas with lots of torches, this is at max settings in optifine and minecraft playing in1920x1080.  Note, I am running a 1080ti with a 1700x though, so your mileage may vary.

My friend who runs the same shaders and texture pack gets slightly higher than that but not at max setting, and not at 1080p.  He is running a 1060 and a 1600x.

Depends on the game.

On some graphicly demaning games, you will need to go down to high in order to even get 60~ fps. On those games, you might need Medium, or even Low for 100 fps.

Depending, how the game scales with settings etc.

Yes, let's skimp on quality...

First of all without VR you're already looking at a monitor with a screen, so a decent coverage of your eyes is seeing the things around your monitor instead of the game itself. Next, even with 4K and max settings even the best looking games for example witcher 3 or dark souls 3 look like absolute shit when compared to real life, for example go to reddit.com/r/earthporn, now open of those "great-looking" games, the former makes the latter look like potato, it only gets worse from there. You're already looking at potato graphics when playing video games, might as well not make them even more potato-like. We're faaaaar from getting to the point where video games graphics are even close to real life
