Posted December 20, 2013 Is it bad that I have sound cards and dacs? I also have stuff for recording like my Edirol FA-66 and Scarlett 2i4 which do a decent job for listening as well. Also another benefit of a soundcard is the better mic input. The output part of those realtek chips has gotten better but the input? All I know is ive been told I sound a bunch better on the sound card. Also desktop mic bla bla bla... What if I like using a headset? O and wasnt there a huge thread about this already, I think I was talking about a Faraday Cage in it for some reason. UPDATED An enthusiasts guide to video feat. Posted December 20, 2013 lossless does sound better. it should. There is more information in FLAC than in a 320kbps mp3. Seperation is better, for instance. It is a very subtle difference, but you can still hear it. Imagine your surprise when you get around making abx test and can't confirm your perceived differences
 In general I'd say yes to the soundcard being better, but also that there's not enough of a difference to justify the cost. There's always exceptions, of course. Posted December 20, 2013 wow, so much poor information now. When doing a blind test, it is not the audio settings that need to be the same. It is the SPL from the headphones that must be matched. You need an SPL meter to do this. Please, whilst I know the information in the video was not always the easiest to understand the sentiment was correct and the basic fact of the matter is that most (if not all) current sound cards have poor amp implementations compared to newer on board solutions, this issue can be heard with blind testing and is so prominent that you don't need expensive gear that is thousands of time more sensitive than human ears to measure it. Unlike DAC's which to the human ear are all identical nowadays. Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge. Posted December 20, 2013 All I have to say is that when I got my shitty sound card I noticed a difference. You know that sorta whiny noise that basically is your computer "thinking"? Either that got quieter or the audio I want to hear got louder. I never used the front panel audio plugs on my computer since it made that noise worse on integrated and sound card. There was no noticeable difference between hissing or anything. Also I love it how most of the forum was all for sound cards and pushing for them, then Tek Syndicate makes one video saying otherwise and the whole forum just automatically changes its opinion. Old shit no one cares about but me.

Yep agreed there are bad soundcards that really arnt worth anything equivalent to a gt 610 or R5-230. Also a creative ZxR I consider to be cheating kinda. Its a good chunk of money and more closely resembles a external dac/amp combo than a sound card fot the stereo output bit of it. What do all of you think about the ASUS Essence STU because to me it seems like its basically a external ST/STX minus the input stuff. UPDATED An enthusiasts guide to video feat. Posted December 20, 2013 I personally have no experience at all in audio and don't use an audio card, could you elaborate your current experiences with audio card and how it has made a difference? Because from what I've understood is that some audio cards may have a build in equalizer so the bass may be turned up and that's why you believe that an audio card is allot better. My onboard didn't have that. Locational audio is not hardware related it is purely software. It sounds like your onboard is either old or broken, however that does not mean all onboards are broken, and all are capable of binaural surround.
