Samsung Galaxy S9 unveiled. 960FPS/720p, f/1.5 <-> f/2.4, SD845/E9810 and more

............this is so underwhelming after all the advertisement they made (yes I was floded with it everywhere)... so they just...moved the fingerprint sensor to finally where it belongs, below the camera (took you what, 2 or 3 years, samsung? the chinese did it before you....) and.....

4 or 6gb of ram and only 64gb of internal space? Is this a flagship? What, you'll sell this for 900e again? Damn, the Mate 10 Pro is STILL superior to this thing (6gb ram/128gb internal storage/cheaper...)

this phone belongs in midrange with those specs. There.

Well, that's kinda debatable.

We all knew the S9 wasn't going to be revolutionary. It was essentially a "tock" to the S8's "tick" cycle. Basically the same shell with a couple of minor improvements here and there.

There were 2 standouts, though. The cameras, and the Exynos SoC. Assuming those Geekbench scores are right, it will be a monstrosity.

Also, headphone jack. Because you know, everyone else including Huawei left Jack off the board.

Looks like a more refined S8 better camera better fingerprint location.  I don't see an issue with it though I'm more than content with my S8+.  Just thank god they kept the headphone jack.

ahaha got me there (well... they include a dongle in the box, so does it matter that much?)

I still find it rather disappointing for its price though.

I was never interested in this phone to begin with.

Not because it's bad, but because my Note8 already does a heap already.

... iphone x with all the accessories and the extra warranty and stuff. Sold my (really) old audi for 2000e last year, iphone x is around what, 1500e with all the extra? So close. Very close (for a used one).

i heard it has stereo speakers, but i only see the earpiece.

the 6gb RAM is nice, too bad it's on the larger model. i have distaste for phablets after owning a nexus 6p

thank for the fingerprint placement. the S8 / S8+ is terrible. but i like the iris scanner (still works well with glasses, no shades)

I bought a game worn sweater at an auction off the players back who has the potential to do very well in the AHL (in the E now) for 900 dollars. This is something that will last for years... where that will barely get me in the door on an s9.

I think I'll stick with my LG V30 and non-curved screen. The battery life is about 2 days with moderate use and it does everything I need to.

I'm curious about the S10 or whatever they'll call it since that was rumored to have a foldable design which could be interesting.

I've tried out the S8 and with my big hands I always hit the side when I don't mean to.

You could also make the comparison to a high end laptop -- which will run you $1000+, but for many people be used FAR less than a phone (even if it lasts longer). But a flagship phone can easily last you five years.

LG and a few others have kept the headphone jack, at least for the most part from what I saw when shopping around a few months ago.

I really hope they still keep them. We're not ready for a jackless future yet and LG is riding a ton on Quad DACs.

I think the headphone jack will stick around for a while, at least until wideband wireless becomes mainstream.

I mean Samsung pulled the jack from the S8 but is putting it back so me thinks that hopefully companies got the message.

Edit:

I confused Samsung for another one that pulled the headphone jack.

The LG V30 has OLED and I've yet to see burn in. You just can't use your phone on super high brightness for 8 to 10 hours every day :P

Am I the only one who thinks that phones are getting more boring every year?

really want 3D Touch on android

and it to be close to iOS in function

get flack for copying, who cares, that means that I can switch from 6s and it's beautiful 3D Touch display and technology to android in 2020/2021, assuming the iPhone (2021) isn't killing the rest of the competition like the 6s in 2015.

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

My Note8 is 5 months old and it hasn't burned it yet.

Ditto for my dad's 2 year old Galaxy A5 and my sister's 6 year old Note 2 (although it may have just started to)

LG's OLED is different from samsung's, so not surprised there but the v30 doesn't have a removable battery and not to mention I can't use a mem card and dual sim at the same time :/ otherwise I'd get that and replace my v10 that's finally showing ghosting.

Well everyone I know that has a samsung phone has god awful burn in on theirs so I'd like to keep away from it since I'm a heavy user of my phone due to work.

Ah, yah. Dual sim seems to be pretty rare on phones from what I've seen at least but I though the V30 Europe variant had a dual-sim option, or is it a "dual sim OR sim + memory card" kind of deal?
