cflanders

I am looking to fit the WiFi card I have in the pci 8x slot. However, the slot seems to be backward. Any ideas?

That's PCI, not PCIe.

You could get a PCI WLAN card, but that won't be capable of high speeds.

Found a link you can probably make use of: https://www.thinkpenguin.com/gnu-linux/pci-vs-pci-e-guide-desktop-wireless-cards

PCIe is not compatible with PCI. They achieve similar functions, but they are different designs.

some how reading this post makes me feel old o.0 anyone else feel that way :P

I guess pci has been mostly phased out now huh, it will show up in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs soon, along with the isa slot lol

I guess go with usb or find another slot, not sure a pci slot is going to have the throughput for a modern Wireless N / AC card anyhow

Yeah, PCI bandwidth isnt great.

Per wikipedia:

Speed

133 MB/s (32-bit at 33 MHz – the standard configuration)
266 MB/s (32-bit at 66 MHz or 64-bit at 33 MHz)
533 MB/s (64-bit at 66 MHz)
