What card can I get Under 250 US

Omikse

So this is the rig I am about to build. It has taken me 4 week to research everything I want to put into it and the only thing that is slowing me down is the GPU.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qMzryf

At this point I am shying away from all the higher end cards for obvious reasons, so now I just need to know what card I can get to play the games I want to play. I was watching an ASUS Geforce GTX 1050 TI Strix over at Microcenter for 229.99 but they sold out today since it was available yesterday, why couldn't my tax refund be here. I do not do overclocking since I do not know how so that is not a factor. I do play some recent games like COD WWII and games of the like. I am currently at a resolution of 1920x1080 but tried a few others but was weird on the screen. I want to try and keep it under 250 but under 200 would be better. My current cars is a AMD Radeon R9 380 4GB and it seemed to run COD WWII ok but I only had 8GB of Ram and it stuttered a bit. I have not been able to run WWII since I up'ed my memory to 16GB. But any who, what would you recommend I should get.

It's nearly impossible to find any cheap graphics cards, now isn't really the best time to buy a gpu. But if you still really want to look for a 1050 or 1050 ti, and if you can't really find anything then stick with your r9 380, it's not a bad card. You could wait for gpu prices to go down or look for some used cards. But the 900 series isn't that cheap either and the 7 series isn't too powerful or efficient.

Something used. A 970 or 290/290X/390/390X if you're lucky. Or a 780 Ti.

The market's looking grim these days.

That's probably the move actually. 380s are pretty good for the insane market we're in right now. You can mine on it too... if that's what you're into

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

That's weird, I played WII just fine with 8gb ram. If I had to guess maybe the stuttering could be from the cpu? FX is getting to be pretty outdated by now.

Honestly I'd rather wait for gpu prices to come back down, I would throw your 380 in that system until then

even used 900 series gpu's are overpriced right now

I am finding that out but I am giving my current rig to my son so he can have his own and so I am building a new one for me.

I can not keep the R9 380 unless I get a new one. As for mining, no, do not plan on it, just gaming. I am looking at an ASUS Radeon Strix RX560 for under 200 at them moment. Any thoughts on that card?

If you really need the card now then go for it. I would just wait it out until pricing comes down which might happen in the next month or two.

It's not as good as the 380 :/

If the 380 couldn't handle CoD WWII I don't expect the 560 to do so either.

Look for a used card. That's like the last hope. 970s sometimes sell for around $210.

Everyone keeps telling me that but by the time GPU prices come down, I will not have the money. It is a buy it now or wait till next years tax refund since I am using this years refund to put this together.

GTX 1050 Ti, approximately the same performance as R9 380.

There is no real upgrade for you at that price point in the new GPU market currently.

Well then get either a gtx 1050 or 1050ti.There's 1050's for about $140 and a zotac 1050ti on newegg for $200

In your situation I would just get the cheapest 1050 for now and upgrade later on if possible. As long as you go easy on the graphics settings you'll be fine for a while:)

I usually do not change the preset settings of a game so that should not be a problem. At least that price is around what I paid for the R9 380, which I can not find in stock anywhere. Hell, it is hard to find any card in stock under 400 right now.

I just purchased a GTX 970 Strix 4GB off craigslist for $220 CAD which is a great deal IMO.  I would personally look for one of these I was playing COD at 1440p 60fps with medium settings I was impressed to say the least.

Good luck with whatever you find!

Cheers.

Depending on the interest of the son, I would get a GT 1030 or GTX 1050 to put in that system and keep the R9 380.  GTX 1050 Ti is not worth $200+.
