I think it is the lack of seriousness and maturatity of the thread, it kinda just mirors a furry chat and that isn't a good thing unless you like furry chats and maybe not the most "clean" place to come out in since it is so informal.

 

That said, I like the LGBT community thread and furry chats in general, they are mostly all just fun, but do tone down when people need it to be serious.

Mostly because the majority of users here are straight, the kind of situations and attitude that is often associated with such threads we find well, uncomfortable. Just like why you might avoid an anime thread, or car thread, or dutch thread; It's just not something you might find any kind of connection to, just a bit more polarized because well, everyone has an opinion on whom they find attractive, rather unlike most people who don't have any kind of opinion on the styling of the latest GT or newest maserati.

I understand that... I really do... Despite what I occasionally spew here on the forums especially when it comes to politics, I try my damn near hardest to keep it professional. I want a fur suit and I want to go to convensions. Sadly as being the person I am, I have no friends and fuck all money, so I cannot go out and spend 5k on a suit.

From my perspective, there is nothing wrong with being a pedophile as long as you don't actually abuse children or look at photographs of abused children, etc. Drawn porn or stuff made in 3D is fine, because no one is harmed. You can't control whether you find children sexually attractive any more than you can your sexuality, and in a vacuum, there is nothing inherently morally wrong with it, and demonizing someone for simply having that characteristic is as bad as it would be for them being gay.

In simple terms, a furry is someone who takes an interest in anthropomorphic animals, sexually or otherwise, "anthropomorphic" being that they hold human characteristics. The characteristics usually include things like intelligence and a more human-like form. The most prominent feature of this latter point is that they are usually bipedal, but this is not always the case. There is an entire range of blending together animal and human features, something that people who aren't in the "fandom" don't really see, but there is a lot of variety and it comes down to personal preference.

 

Personally, I think furries are more engaging from a design perspective than humans, and I also find them more sexually attractive (sorry, folks. you're all just not my type. :P) However, I'm not particularly fond of fursuits, except in very specific circumstances, and I find little interest in wearing one. And, uh, I have some specific kinks as well, not entirely related to furry stuff, that people might want to demonize me for if I mentioned them, so I won't. :P

 

Ugh, and I hope people become more accepting of furries as time goes on. Lighthearted jokes are fine, but I see far too many people specifically targeting us and trying to make us feel small and powerless.

The reason I avoid it is because it feels like just a chat group for a specific group of members, it doesn't feel broad and general where everyone can jump in... Perhaps a refresh on the thread would be nice you know? close it and make a LGBT 2.0 and make it more orientated to personal experience, advises, life stories without it being just a chat/meme room where new people will feel left out because they don't follow it or don't have the same intimacy already.

I don't think that is the answer, if a new thread was made it would add more of a confusing mess of shit, plus the same group of people will be on both threads, few new people will join. 

 

Join in whenever, I understand that it is awkward joining in a conversation that you are not known in, but that is the only way.
