The 1060 6GB..

BoopityDoop

As the title suggests, this is about the 1060 6GB, and how a lot of people underestimate this card.

I've seen quite a few people in the past say that this card is "barely enough for 1080p a lot of the time" (when i say this, i've found that it's higher-spec'd GPU owners who have said this just out of pure ignorance.. ) and that simply is not true,  especially if you don't mind sacrificing bling (not all too much in a lot of cases).. then the card really is a good steal for this particular res, especially if you have a decent CPU to power it.

I myself run a Palit GTX 1060 6GB which is able to boost to about 2090MHz, and i run 21:9 aspect ratio (2560x1080@80hz), as well as a i5-8600k @ 5Ghz and DDR4 @ 3400Mhz.

This card in games such as

- Battlefield 1 (any battlefield for that matter @ Ultra preset upwards of 90fps)

- Battlefront (about the same as Battlefield)

- PUBG (at mixed Low/Ultra @ 90+fps too)

- The Division (at mixed settings, less demanding settings @ Ultra, others at Low, sitting between 80-120fps).

And i'm pretty sure it'd be fine for most Triple-A rated games these days at this res too. People shit on this card too much, but for what it is.. this card is a beast.

I myself have, quite abit. It's mainly the people that have higher-spec'd cards such as the 1080 that say this sort of thing that i've found, and even a few 'buddies' in the past have simply vowed that this card isn't actually any good, when in actual fact it's quite a beast lol

Hell, I have a liquid cooled 1080 but I'm not an idiot. The GTX 1060 6GB is a great card for 1080p, and even a decent card for 1440p.

Not even remotely. That thing is basically a GTX 980. It still plays virtually every game there is a 1080 ultra 60fps. I doubt you will find anyone here who believes it's not a good 1080p card.

The current problem: 1060 6GB costs an arm & a leg.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

Some say it's a good budget 1080p ultra card, and it usually is (MINERS), but it is also a great 1440p 60fps card.  However, it costs $400 right now and it's absolutely ridiculous

So does every card that's not the 1050 ti and below. I know people who built entire PCs with 1060s and RX 480s and 580s and sold the card and got back their entire investment on the PC.

A used 980ti, which used to be under $300, would have blown it out of the water though :P

Yep for sure, but miners are so hungry the 980 ti that they used to avoid like the plague because of the power draw, they are buying them up now for $600-$700.

I had the chance to buy one for $275~$300 from someone (it was an evga classified version :o) but never tried to put together the money and left it alone and now it's worth x2 as much. I would've gone from a rx460 to a gtx 980 ti and I wish I spared the money to this day

780ti is still the best card in the history of the world next to the 8800gtx

It's within 10% performance of the 980 and can be found for used less than $150, and it's definitely better than the similarly priced 1050 ti

At $300 usd msrp/£275, the card you bought was definitely overpriced.  Gpu prices started rising early 2017 and converted, £275 is now $400 usd....

I bought mine in September~. Given current 1060 6GB prices in America though; ranging from 420$ to about 699.99$ (seriously, crazy shit), the £275 (which is about 385$), i got a pretty decent deal.

Pretty much anything higher than a GT 1030 does these days. Makes me glad Kepler cards aren't good for mining, those are still pretty good gaming GPUs.

At MSRP it's the best value for money card you can get (not counting ancient useless stuff that sells for ? ??). It's not quite as powerful as the 980i, but if you can find it at something close to the MSRP you you're laughing.

For accurate comparison from USD to GBP you need to take into account 20% VAT (so take off 1/6th the price) and the fact that our currency tanked 2 years ago and still hasn't recovered.

I bought my EVGA SSC 1060 6GB at $299 did I make out on a great deal now? LOL. And I sold my 970 that was broke for $120 so I didn't really pay much for this 1060. I'd sell it for a profit but then I'd have no output ROTFL. Well... actually I could go get a GTX 275. It's sitting in my old PC gathering dust.

I have got my 1060 Strix 6GB on Black Friday for $350 CAD and I am running a 21:9 1440p @100hz no problem. The only game where I get low 80s is PUBG @ Ultra/Med combination of settings. My plan was to upgrade to 1080ti SLI config on water, but those plans are out of the window now...
