New Build

nsinnott

So I recently sold a bunch of stuff on eBay for a grand total of ~$830. I put this build together, but I figured I would get some opinions before I ordered anything. Any and all suggestions are welcome. (Oh, forgot to mention that I already have a PSU, as well as storage!)

Thanks everyone!

EDIT: Ok, so thanks for all of your suggestions, and I took them into consideration when I made this list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dBjQCy

I still need to figure out a GPU, and I'm debating buying a used 970 or 980 on eBay because everything new is either sky high inflated, or out of stock. Again, any help would be vastly appreciated :)

Stock heatsink is actually really good for Ryzen, even with overclocks.

Faster RAM is a huge bonus to performance for Ryzen as well.

you don't need the CPU cooler there is already a decent one with the ryzen CPU and you need the thermal paste even less...so i removed them and put 16GB of RAM instead which will be worlds more usefull

The only reason I had that one was because of aesthetics. I could still fit it in, actually, with that list. I was also looking for either black or white RAM to match the rest of what I have going on, but thank you for the advice! I will go and take a look again now.

Forgot to check earlier but it looks like that GPU is out of stock. You'll probably have to wait a bit due to crypto mining blowing out the stock and also I would suggest looking at the 6GB variant if possible.

Ah, damn. I was looking at a 6GB one earlier, and was planning to get it when I realized it was out of stock as well. Grrrrrrr

Thank god someone saved you from a $300 3GB 1060

I would highly suggest you just save your money for now and don't buy anything, because Ryzen APUs are coming to save the budget gamer. $169 for an R5 1400 + RX 550

I'm not really interested in a Ryzen APU or RX 550... I need something with a little bit more oomph. If anyone has any suggestions for a GPU that isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg more than it should, I'd love to hear it. Like I said, I'm willing to buy used if anyone has any ideas.

GTX 980Ti might be good, I've seen them around the $300 price mark and it performs about on par with a 1070

Those are about 1060-ish level (a bit over that but less than a 1070) so I would go for that over an over-priced 1060 3GB :)

That's why you should just buy the APU, because it gives you a solid GPU for the least amount of money

as we don't know when GPU prices won't be insane.

Miner are totally going to snatch those up

As a side note, you're only going to need one of the $25-30 120mm tower coolers with 4 heatpipes

And I'd suggest a case more focused on airflow with a mesh front.

APUs can do a lot, especially the new ones given current GPU pricing. Used to run a 5800K exclusively, kind of miss that set up.

Just think of it like getting a $15 RX 550/560 that's still going to run your games fine at 1080p 60hz, and they look fun to overclock as well.

It's a Rosewill Photon... Not the greatest, but I received it as a gift, and it works fine for me, and am getting nowhere near the amount of issues I was getting with my previous PSU (10v on the 12v rail, crap like that)

You could literally double your RAM to 16gbs for the same budget, or step up your CPU to the R5 1600 if you didn't spend money on looks. I'm pretty sure you're going to care about how your PC performs rather than how it looks.

$30 more isn't going to get me 16GB of RAM, and I don't need the 1600 right now. AM4 gives me a great opportunity to upgrade in the future, and aesthetics are pretty important to me, hence my justification in spending $60 on a heatsink, and getting a case with TG, along with trying to stick with a color scheme. I totally understand where you are coming from, and other people might do that, but it's just not for me. Thank you for all of your suggestions, though

Your total is

Total: $491.80

Mine is

Total: $418.86

about $70 there, which means a better something somewhere, and that's not to mention that case looks like it has poor airflow

Where it drops 10C on the GPU by removing the front panel

Right, because you knocked $30 off the cooler, and $40 off the case... and gave me a really crappy looking one. Look, at this point, I have this, and I'm going to say thank you to everyone who contributed here, and go on my merry way. Who knows, by the time the money clears, I might have changed something, and in that case, if I'm still not 100% confident, chances are that I'll post again. For now though, I'm going to stick with what I have gotten from this thread (including info about overpriced GPUs as well as RAM speed and Ryzen.) Thank you to everyone who contributed, I really appreciate it, and I hope to be back in a couple weeks with a completed build
