MSI shows off Radeon R9 290X (GAMING) Twin Frozr 4S OC

Youbetternot

Looks like we have MSI R9 290x Twin Frozr 4s OC edition. According to Hermitage Akihabara the card comes out December or early January. It will be available for 80,000 JPY or 775 dollars, however japan prices are higher. Expect probably 650 dollars or maybe 700

MSI has showcased its new products for winter.

An exclusive event took place in Japan, where MSI showcased some new cards, including GTX 780 Ti and Radeon R9 290X, both custom built. I’m not sure why these cards are not simply called GAMING, as we used to know red painted cards from MSI, but Twin Frozr 4S OC. I guess this is just a branding for Asian market. Plus, they still have G-series logo.

According to Hermitage Akihabara only few samples of these cards exists (that would be about R9 290X). Card is not yet available for the masses, and it is scheduled for early January or late December.

New pictures don’t really tell us much about the new card. One thing is certain though, we are obviously looking at fully custom card, which ships in factory-overclocked configuration. The MSI R9 290X GAMING would be equipped with Military Class IV components and a backplate. As the name suggests the new R9 290X will feature the latest installment of Twin Frozr cooling system equipped with two 10cm fans.

We can clearly see that this card is also equipped with two power connectors, unfortunately it’s a default configuration of 6 and 8-pin.

Still the same.........nothing interesting since the GTX 660 Ti launch for designs. MSI Lightening 780 is ugly this dual fan cooler is probably the best other than the new Asus DCu2 cooler. Should provide a bit better and adequate cooling however water-cooling it is by far, bar none the best way to do it.

Thanks for the update Youbetternot :)

edit:was the 660 Ti twin frozr cooler ,...did it have 2x 100mm fans? I guess it wasn't better cooling over fin stack.

Although the design still is the same, the size of the cooler keeps increasing! Look at that damn thing :o

Let's hope for some good benchmarks.

New to Star Citizen? Look no further!

Bloody hell, are we going back to the days of measuring one's case to make sure the graphics card will fit? That thing is fucking monstrous.

Atleast it has got a backplate, but $650? I'd rather buy a 780 Ti

Doubt they'll be that expensive on release, since they will be back in stock and prices should lower.

Expecting $450 for non-reference 290.

hopefully those skinny fan blades are of high strength and the whole card doesn't weight a tonne.

I have a question:

I have two expensive 8-pin power extenders, and i want to use them on my next GPU.

All the 290x and 290's we've seen (except lightning) use 8+6 pin.

Will there be a 290 or 290x that will use 8+8 pin connectors in the future??

Don't get me wrong it looks nice but that distance in between the blades and the and the edge of the ring won't allow for great static pressure

Well,  why the "GAMING" label?  do they make a 290x twin frozr for non-game related use?

At US$650 allowing for currency conversion when sold in Aus it is going to make it only a bee's dick cheaper than the GTX780Ti ($799) and more expensive than the EVGA GTX780 ($649).  I would love to see the performance figures for this.
