AI-assisted fake porn are being used by people on Reddit for self-completion

I knew it will only be matter of time. Some people still will put complete trust in like videos with "they don't and can't lie" so yeah it will be horrible shitshow. Specially as far as evidence use.

So when can I walk around with a head mounted computer (google glass) and see everyone naked?

Creepy. That's honestly a tech that I don't think should have been invented or allowed out to be used by regular people.

Should have been left to movies to paste over stunt doubles or something.

I also don't understand why people need to see a certain person "nude." There's tons of hot porn stars, hot college students, hot parents who recorded themselves, etc etc. On top of that....how often are you really looking at the face anyway? :P

The first victims of these are celebrities. There are studies that demonstrate that porn viewing desensitizes ones genitals and reduces white matter in the brain. https://www.wired.com/2014/06/is-it-really-true-that-watching-porn-will-shrink-your-brain/

Having a lot of trouble taking wired seriously when the whole article is admonishing  the media for misrepresented the research article and then they go and say things like this:

A further problem with correlational studies is not just that the causal direction can run either way, but that an unknown or uncontrolled third factor (and others) could be causally involved.

Given the author is a neuroscientist himself, he should know better than to admonish other researchers when appropriate qualifiers were made.

This will be a huge problem in just a few years. Not porn being made of celebrities, but this technology (plus fabricated audio) being used to create fake evidence and "fake news".

Soon having video "evidence" complete with audio will not actually prove anything, just like a photo doesn't really prove anything today because of photoshop. Not only will it create a bunch of lies being told, denying something will be incredibly easy too, even if they got you on video doing whatever you are denying.

The future is not looking bright.

In the meantime I'll have to study these Taylor Swift and Aubrey Plaza videos to validate how real they look. For research purposes of course.

not too different as it is now most news is chalked full of lies

Fortunately for me, there are very few pictures or videos of my face online.

Makes you think how someone would delve into such interesting technology... to make fake porn. I mean, surely there are better applications for this sort of thing... movie special effects could certainly make use of it and it might cut the costs of motion capture (if the computer can generate the actor by itself convincingly it may even replace stunt doubles).

How long until they are automatically generated by bots? It's like leaving ssh open on port 22, eventually they'll break it even if they don't care about you specifically :P

What software did you use to make this?

I assume it is not an actual physics based program given the change in direction around the L1 point.

An overly complicated program that many people have trouble using, especially on this forum. You may have heard of it before, I believe the technical name is Google.

Doesn't really look like Gal at all tbh.

The video with the Trump and Putin faces was far more convincing. If they get the facial expressions right then there's serious damage that can be done their.

Our Grace. The Feathered One. He shows us the way. His bob is majestic and shows us the path. Follow unto his guidance and His example. He knows the one true path. Our Saviour. Our Grace. Our Father Birb has taught us with His humble heart and gentle wing the way of the bob. Let us show Him our reverence and follow in His example. And in those next 5-10 years it will be very creepy and disturbing. I bet the creators of this AI are now looking forward using the new NVIDIA Titan V to perfect their machine learning algorithms to make real looking fake porn or even fake political statements and scandals.

  • 2 weeks later...

This seems like a natural evolution; throwing mud is not new. Fabrication or bending the truth is not new either. Slander can take on new forms but up to us to not ascribe it value.

As we let go of the truthyness of film it's important to remember that was never there to begin with. I.e the narrative around the imagery and the context in which it's presented is is all that mattered to begin with. Authenticity is always a construct of context and medium in which the information is presented. It's a shift that video imagery is increasingly cheaply maluable but should not have a much bigger impact then photoshop did to indexacality of still imagery.

If anything it provides deniability of indexicality of images to the powerful. We see a president denying authenticity to audio recordings where previously admitted to be true and with other participants present at the event. Or atacking fundamental scientific consensus against an existential threat for significant portions of the global population.

Truth has much bigger problems then the latest image manipulation techniques.

The tech looks cool; should produce new gaming experiences and maybe able to provide anonymity to video conference applications.

We should not fall for the trap of techno-determinism. Be the difference in the internet that you want to see ;)

Don't ascribe truth to fiction or empower those that would.

Don't subscribe to hurtful fictions or "truths" that target the vulnerable.
