So today I was looking through r/bapcsalescanada and I saw a post saying how ncix is dying with a link to the ncix forum where everybody is saying ncix is dead. I always thought ncix was a reputable company. Does anybody know what happened?

NCIX has been in financial ruins for awhile now, plenty of news talk and discussion about it.

But yes it looks like the end is finally near

The short answer is they seem to be struggling.

However, that's 100% speculation. We have no official confirmation of their situation. Reputable companies can go out of business too though.

They closed *all* of their Ontario locations.  So there’s that.

And in doing so lost my business. Granted most purchases where threw canada computers (closer, usually cheaper) but i always went to them for the Toshiba drives. I can physically pick them up at Newegg i think, else I'll go red at CC (blue is the new green, and wont touch Seagate)

I remember reading something about how Ontario residents could pick up at the Head Office in Ontario but according to Yelp it too is closed.

Brick and Mortar doesn't seem competitive for PC parts sales anyway.  I only used the NCIX on Yonge street to pick stuff up and avoid paying for shipping.

Considering the closest store was at least an hour away (with good traffic... goddamn 401), I've never actually been inside any of the Ontario NCIX stores. But yeah the overhead of running a B&M PC Parts Store cuts away almost all profit - I'm surprised places like Canada Computers are doing as well as they are still.

What about it? Totally different company, operating in an entirely different country.

You have to love the busiest highway in north america... The pictures of the BC locations are identical to the ones we had. Actually Markhams location has a 360 view still active on google. But let me tell you that 360 makes the store look like it has tons of room, it really doesnt, during busy times it felt like you were in a intimate relationship down those aisles esp winter..

About Canada Computers and why they are opening new locations is because of how they lay out their stores. Want RAM? goto the cash it's behind them, Want a SSD or literally anything required to build a computer but a case/keyboard/power supply/monitor (all in basically the same area however), It's behind the desk within meters of the cash and if you know the model you have it in 5 minutes or less and someone is likely there if not give it a minute. At canada computers you could probably buy a complete computer in parts inside of 15 minutes assuming they have everything.  At NCIX you have to go find someone or wait at a cash, then order the part if it's not on the shelf or behind the counter (literally all drives cases etc), go to the pickup area and wait, well that's how Markhams worked at least.

I bought my Thermaltake Overseer from NCIX 5 years ago because they had it in stock (and cheaper) it took them 15 minutes to give it to me plus an additional 10 minutes just trying to get someone's attention and because i bought it online it gave further hassle. the Toshiba drives were worth the wait because it only took max 5-10 minutes, beyond that if it's not on the shelf able to be held i didn't buy it. 3/4 years ago i bought a few keyboards (from the shelf) as gifts it took 15 minutes just to get out because of said setup...

Plus compared to every location i have been in Canada Computers has a bigger selection of iCAN products vs NCIX's nGear (every site selling nGear is owned by NCIX), not to mention easier to get. Why does this matter? Spending $1-5 on a cable you can sell for $6-15 brings up your profit margin significantly, plus bigger selection means more likely a sale. My local location has about 20 feet of wall dedicated to cables and such alone (just ask in these cases it's faster). Purchase price is prob about $3000-5000, sale value upwards to $20,000, NCIX has limited selection on the wall (worst than Best Buy), and is a few bucks more than Canada Computers.

Canada computers actually offers more space for less, basically the wal-mart of the industry, and comparable pricing to Newegg. They didn't start out this way (been a client for 10+ years) but it sure is working, just hope they dont become a future shop.

Both Downtown locations prob same sq footage too, Canada Computers utilized the space better.

If i was NCIX i would fear them jumping into the west, if that happens bye bye.
