How many of you still running 1080p/60hz rigs and happy with it ?

strat guy

Not for multiplayer shooter people etc where moar frames is obviously better but for regular witcher 3 etc single player gamers. I've never seen what 4k gaming looks like, I have seen 1440p but not where I could a/b it with a 1080p and compare. Sure, more pixels crammed in will result in a better image quality but just how big of an upgrade is it ? In my case I'm always going back and forth between gaming on the couch with a big 1080p TV and the computer desk with a small 21.5" 1080p screen. Would love an upgrade to a higher resolution but it'd have to be both the tv and the monitor but see no need to do it, nevermind the ton of money it'll take to do so anyway.

What kind of displays are most people gaming on, and are you happy with it ?

I've got a 144hz panel, it's 1440p. I've tried a 4K display, and honestly, it's like having 32GB of Ram while 1440p is the sweet spot, just like 16GB. The performance gap between the two isn't great enough to excuse the massive price entry point of 4K gaming, and the difference in pixels can easily be overlooked. I do have a 60hz 4K panel as a secondary monitor, though that's for video editing moreso than anything else.

I'd recommend focusing on 144p (but not beyond) first, and then 1440p. From a 60hz panel, you'll see massive improvement, and 1440p is small enough for games to still run amazingly on it and have it look big and great, while not reaching the performance limits of 4K right now, unless you're SLI'ing 1080Ti's.

I have a 1080p 60Hz 5ms monitor. Fine, though I'd like a 1440p one. Just not enough to justify the price.

24" 1920x1200 60Hz. I could consider higher resolution in a bigger screen in order to increase desktop real estate while still being able to read and see things :P The problem is finding 16:10 screens outside 24". I guess I could tolerate 16:9 on a bigger screen with more pixels all around, though.

For gaming alone I don't plan to go beyond my current monitor either in resolution nor in refresh rate any time soon (or any time really, unless as a byproduct of me using higher res monitors for other purposes).

24" 1920x1080 60hz user here, feeling very happy with the resolution and the refresh rate, the main problem is the colours as its a cheep Chinese brand that my dad brought. After all, its the same amount of pixels at the same refresh rate, so it will look the same right?

28inch 4k TN & 43 inch 4k 4:4:4 Chroma TV  Both cheap Paid $400 like 2 1/2 years ago for the 28" and $300 for the TV 1-1/2 years

i love them both i game PC on the 28" and Do the rest and console game on the 43" .

My biggest regret is the fact that the TV has a lot of input lag in 4k 40ms ish. so for gaming i cant use it unless its at 1080p which is good for my xbox PS and Switch. and use it for desktop 4k use .  Didnt realize 1080 and 4k on a tv would have different input lags.

Eventually ill upgrade the TV to a lower input lag and retire it to my bedroom. Having to only game on the 28" isnt much of a problem.

i personally think 4k Looks way better its so crisp in gaming. But outside of that its useless there is no 4k content besides bluray. i have 4k netflix on my living room tv while its better its just higherbitrate and comparable to 1080p bluray.  and cable companies cant even come close to 1080p yet alone try 4k

 i5-3570k @ 4.6Ghz (previously 4.8) and a GTX 970. I use a VG248QE, for those that are unfamiliar, it's a 1080p 144hz monitor. Most games that aren't capped at 60 FPS run over 150 FPS for me on High-ish settings, CSGO about 350, CS Source about 500.

I'm very happy with it for Gaming and just productivity in general, for the most part. I run 4 monitors as I do a lot of multitasking and a lot of web/app development. I do wish I went for a 3770k when I had the chance, but I do see myself upgrading to probably something like a 8700k (or 6800k) with a GTX 1070 in the future for multi-tasking and things like video editing/streaming.

Just for the record, the following games run at over 144 FPS on High-Max settings (more so good looking than the actual setting, but still high-ultra in the settings):
- DayZ
- Assetto Corsa
- GTA V
- Dirt Rally
- Absolute Drift
- Battlefield: BC2
- Brick Rigs
- Cities: Skylines

- Rocket League

- Train Simulator (2018)

These are Games that can handle 60 FPS fine:
- Besiege
- ArmA 3
- Euro Truck Simulator 2

Displays fall into thing I upgrade when they break. So I have 24" and 20" 1080p/60 displays. I admit that getting 27-40" display/TV is tempting now that I have space for it. But so far any other upgrades and buys are more interesting and tempting.

you should be fine, honestly it is moving backwards that gets people. if you were playing 1440p for a long time then get a 1080 monitor it just seems a little off. also at 21" ppi is pretty good., and you can use a lower end gpu because you are not pushing that many pixels.

I use 32" 2560x1440 previously but I had no regret switch over to Ultrawide 34" 2560x1080. But off course 144hz make a different here, this need personal experience just can tell.

Absolutely not much differences to me if talk on sharpness clarity. A lot said 1080p look suck in 27" (34" Ultrawide consider longer edition of 27"), it may is it may not. I had seen very bad quality 1080p 27" TN panel but a great IPS panel is as sharp as it is.

I had another 1080p 24" monitor and frank speak I don't see differences on sharpness clarity even though the DPI is 92 vs 82.
