The system is pretty much just for gaming.

So yea, pccg are expecting more shipments in early November, so I was wondering what the likelihood of me being able to grab one is? Whether they'll sell out instantly and if I should just go with the 7700k and save the $181 AUD.

Okay. I have a 7700k @5.0Ghz which gets 987 cinebench score. This is a synthetic use all benchmark that puts every single core to max usage. The 8700k @5.0Ghz gets ~1680 cinebench score. That is ~70% increase in performance @5.0Ghz on both.

This is for any task that will be using those cores, streaming, rendering, etc. But for gaming, it will be the same.

8700k is also more expensive than 7700k. It's up to you.

Edit: You're getting a beefy CPU Cooler so I am assuming you will be OCing. Hence my overclocking statement and scores above.

Yeah IMO it's worth the wait.

50% more performance is nothing to sneeze at

Yes, you should wait. There's no point in investing into an "outdated" platform. Plus, the primary advantage that the i7-8700K has over the i7-7700K can be summed up in two words; frametime consistency.

Alright. Anyone have any idea how quickly the 8700k's will sell when they get restocked? And if you have any tips for snagging one before they sell out?

It will sell out VERY FAST! You'd have to constantly refresh. Even websites that tell you availability. You come in 2 minutes later and its all gone. Websites would probably only get like a batch of ~20 if and when it comes in stock.

Heres a good benchmark video to check out on some of the recent CPU's released.

In a nutshell, the 8700k is great, and if you feel like its worth the price difference over the 7700k or even the 8600k, then i wouldnt advise you against it. The 7700k is known to run pretty hot even on water, where the 8th gens can as well, but from what ive seen is that they can handle temps a bit better especially with stable overclocking. Averages ive seen in OC are in the 5-5.2GHz range which is pretty impressive. The 8700k will allow you much more headroom for other tasks if you decide you want to record a game, or stream, or any other multitasking workloads you throw at it, and could potentially be a bit more future proof in having 2c/4t more for when games can utilize them more. Now if the money part is another issue, in this video you can see even the 8600k matching, beating, or trading blows with the 7700k. So in terms of price for performance, id say the 8600k would be a great recommendation as well as you can also overclock it to the 5-5.2 range.

You wont be unhappy with either of the 3 as they all will perform at well over acceptable levels, but in terms of longevity i would advise to wait a bit longer for the 8th gen. It all comes down to what you feel is best bang for the buck, or if its not worth it to wait. Hope this helps ^_^

200cb extra on the 8700K than Ryzen 7 1700 on 1400cb?! i guess Ryzen is still better hehe

I'm currently looking for an i7 8700(K) for my company's rendering rig, and they are SOLD OUT everywhere with waiting time usually at least one month or so

i7 8700K is extremely scarce at the moment, so if you saw one grab it immediately

Only reason to buy a 7700K is because you are going from an older CPU of the Skylake/Kaby Lake family (like me)

@spookr

If you want an i7-8700K, don't wait for them to appear in stock. Find a merchant that has a wait list and get on the list.
