NVME SSD worth it ?

So I built my new pc but I am using the old hard drive from my old pc as I wanted to figure out my storage situation before I bought the hard drives and my new copy of Windows. So Is NVME worth and if so, which m.2 NVME Drives are the best price to performance.? I am going with the standard SSD for OS and HDD (a 4TB Seagate one) For Mass storage. I am just putting the OS and all the drivers on the SSD with maybe CIV 5 cause that apparently benefits from an SSD, with everything else on the HDD. I really like the m.2 form cause it will reduce cable clutter, and my motherboard says it supports nvme and SATA SSD.

SSDs feel fast because of the low latency. So you wont notice much difference between a top end NVME SSD and a SATA SSD in tasks like gaming/general computer usage. So whether or not its worthwhile will depend on how much you value less cable clutter and if you think youre going to start doing something that benefits from super high read/write speeds (e.g. heavy rendering).

You can go M.2 SATA w/o going NVMe if all you want is a reduction in clutter.

A true NVME m.2 SSD is a nice upgrade but super expensive, that being said just a m.2 SSD is a very nice option too. And it It will cost the same as a 2.5" SSD. Like you said it will eliminate cables, and you will have fast boot times. I recommend something like this the WD Blue m.2 SSD

Take a look at the prices between an NVME and SATA drives in the same capacity or near enough, and then decide whether it's worth the price difference or not. You probably wouldn't notice much difference to be honest in performance as others have said.

I personally would go for NVME at the moment as the price where I am isn't much different, approx £11, so to me that is negligeable and worth it if I need a new SSD.

Ahh, just checked again and the price difference is now around £20, so for me that is still worth it, but for someone else that is on a tighter budget, might not be worth it.

So I guess I will be going with SATA then xD Is there any performance benefit to more storage cause on AnandTech, they always talk about 128GB not being able to fill the NAND channels compared to bigger models or is that really an NVME thing cause of the speed ?

Higher storage on the drive usually brings faster performance due to more cache, longer lifespan and overprovisioning in some cases. Some lines even use better controllers~ I would go 256+ for primary though...500GB as the sweet spot. Aslong as the drive shows 550/500 youll be fine just keep in mine keeping SSDs near capacity is technically bad.

So SSDs are basically built by RAIDing the NAND chips inside -- so often you will see that larger capacity drives are benchmarked at faster speeds because of that as well as more cache/different controllers (although it's not always the case). Larger SSDs also technically will last longer since they can sustain more writes (although the SSD will more than likely be irrelevant long before you run out of writes). Just get whatever size SSD you feel is needed.

Okay, Final Question is the connector type. My motherboard uses a type M connector, And I think I am gonna go with the WD Blue SATA M.2 DRIVE that has a b+m connector. so will it work with a M type key?

it's really only worth it if they're the same price as a sata SSD of the sameish capacity. m.2 is more worth it on it's own because it's convenient to not have to run extra cables and it takes no extra space. the speed gain between the two is impossible to notice in practice for 99% of tasks

Yes. M keyed slots are also meant for SATA based devices.

Anyone have experience with HP SSD's. Was looking at this as it is a pretty good price and black (its has a black color scheme and a temepered glass side panel) http://m.canadacomputers.com/mobile/itemid/115768

https://www.anandtech.com/show/11790/the-hp-s700-and-s700-pro-ssd-review/9

It's around an Adata SU800 and Crucial MX300. It doesn't use DRAM, so random read writes take a hit while sequential is more in line with the above two. I would avoid it (and any DRAMless SSD).

So I thought I would let you guys know, but I have decided I am going with the Samsung 850 evo 250GB. Decided that I would rather pay more to get more storage at a lower per GB cost, Samsung's industry leading technology (From what I have heard) and the 5 year warranty. Its also in black so will go with my build and I also like that I can clone my OS To the new Drive. I know its 2.5inch and not m.2 but the trade off is worth it in my opinion :)
