Depends. When I used to play WoW & PVP a lot, fast paced music was my go to. Mostly some kind of metal/hard rock. But in games like GTA V, I set my own custom music station or i'll listen to the talk back stations, they're always fun. Other than that, I don't really listen to music whilst gaming, it mostly detracts from the experience imo.

Depends a lot on what I'm playing.

I usually just listen to the ingame soundtrack, but if that's not any good or I've listened to it too much I'll make my own.

For example, when I play Western RPGs I usually listen to neo-folk like Wardruna, Current 93 and Death in June.

if I'm playing strategy games I usually play metal, rock and punk music from whichever subgenre seems the most appropriate.

I always listen to the in-game audio. Listening to anything other than the in-game soundtrack detracts from the immersion and overall experience, in my opinion.

Well for starters, I rarely play video games except solitaire. I just listen to electro. Auto play on YouTube, even though every one I know HATES autoplay. But if I'm playing games like R6 or any game requiring some actual focusing, I don't listen to music. In actual video games I do find it distracting at times.

I remember way back in the day when the original quake came out and Trent Reznor did the 9 ambient tracks on the cd. It was pretty cool because you could throw in any audio cd there and it'd somewat randomly play those tracks. Megadeth, Slayer, Quake.. \m/

A lot of the games aren't suited for music listening these days but there are probably mods and hacks for putting your stuff on the GTA V Radio dial or while playing the new Doom.
