help me choose a monitor!

xa-mont

hey guys,

After some help deciding on what monitor I should be looking at.

Comp specs are:

i7 7740x @5ghz with gtx1080

I mostly play FPS games and also do a bit of CAD work.

I currently have a 24" aoc 144hz monitor.

I definitely want bigger, but the question is how much bigger and what should I be prioritising? 1080 vs 1440? 27" vs 34" ultrawide curved? 60hz vs 144hz? response times?

I'm looking to spend about the $700 AUD mark, give or take and I'm leaning towards an ultrawide curved monitor, mainly for the immersion factor.

What's everyone think?

Cheers,

Trav

I would definitely go ultrawide at 1440p. I wouldn't prioritize the curved factor much as from my personal experience it makes very little difference in the immersion factor.

For a specific suggestion I would refer you to this, https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-vast-curved-gaming-monitor . LTT has a video coming out about it soon that is on Float Plane Club right now. It is a mostly positive review and a definite recommendation for the price point.

its good for its price, not g-sync but if it was it would be 200+ more expencive

I7 7700K @5.0ghz, Asus Z270-P, Corsair H115i, hyperX 16gb, Asus duel 1070, Nzxt H440

Maybe the part picker sucks, but any time I look at displays in AUS your selection is pretty weak.

Maybe go for this 4k 27" IPS display, otherwise I don't see any 1440p ultra wides within your budget, but 4k gives you more pixels anyways, at 27" you'll probably need some scaling though.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Looks pretty good, but shipping date Jan 2018 is a bit far out.

My recommendation is this Dell. It is a high gloss 1440p IPS pannel so good for immersion due to the panel quality and the lack of a matte finish, which has a negative impact on picture quality in my opinion. It is not an ultrawide or curved, but for CAD work I personally prefer the 16:9 ratio. It is currently on sale in your price point, though it has not been reviewed by anyone besides one idiot who thought usb-c would charge his 90W laptop. Other than that this is a monitor focused more around non competitive gaming since it is ips panel with no g-sync, but it looks phenomenal.
