What is THE BEST power supply on the market?

lexidobe

I am so sick of expensive junk PSUs. I bought 2 EVGA 1000 P2 PSUs and they both failed, 1 killed my motherboard and CPU. I called EVGA and told them about this. The man I talked to said that they failed bacause I bought a grossly oversized PSU. He said something like their 450 watt Bronze unit would have been more appropriate for my system because it only draws 350 watts under load. I'm done with EVGA. I am thinking about getting a Seasonic Prime Titanium 1000W PSU, but I am wondering if that is an expensive POS also. I do not mind paying for quality, I plan to use this PSU for as long as possible, probably at least 10 years, so I don't consider spending a lot on a top notch PSU a waste of money at all. Thanks

that sucks

but the evga rep makes a good point

wouldnt you be less pissed if you spent less...on an appropriately sized psu? like 600-700watts? just because you want it to last long doesnt mean it has to be capable of huge power draw....in the next 10 years components will only become more efficient...

anyways i have been using a Corsair HX850W (first gen) for over 7 years now with no issues

i hear very good things about Seasonic as well

If you want the best of the best then go with the Corsair AX1500i or AX1200i

The Seasonic ultra titanium series for sure.

But buying the highest wattage one doesn't mean it's better, in fact the lower wattage models have tighter voltage regulation.

But a few mv of regulation won't make a difference tbh, so any one will work excellent.

The prime ultra seems to be a new version of the prime.

If you want to be extra safe, buy a UPS too.

More power doesn't equal a better PSU.

A better question would be "what is the best power supply for my system" and then list your system spec.

Thanks. I have a Cyberpower 1500VA sine wave UPS. I don't screw around with power.

The better question is what killed his two P2s, because EVGA isn't known for QC issues nor is the P2 a bad PSU (in fact it's excellent). So either he has the shittiest luck in the world, or there is something else causing a problem. Not to mention it sounds like he's omitting a lot of the story here.

agreed

Puget Systems swears by their EVGA P2 units

and they do extensive testing before deploying parts in their systems

I have a decent power grid, and both PSUs were running off of this $220 UPS.

Yeah, for sure that too. It could be dirty power. I lived in an apartment that killed 4 high end PSUs in a few months.

True, but I only draw 500 watts from it.

Well you have the worst luck in the world as the EVGA Supernova 1000P2 is a stellar unit. Something is killing them.

Might it have been a dodgy sine wave from the UPS that killed them both? Seems like more than a coincidence.

I edit my posts a lot.

I think it's time to stop ripping OP for his purchases...

You don't need a higher wattage PSU for your PC since higher wattage doesn't always mean higher quality and will usually just mean more money. Those P2's are amazing PSUs and I seriously doubt that two would die so soon. Obviously the problem lies somewhere else and throwing yet more money at another PSU isn't going to fix it

That's an F in the profile pic
