Due to recent life events I'm looking to sell my Rampage III extreme, X5675, and 12GB DDR3 2000MHz Ram.

How much do you guys think is reasonable price to ask on the Bay or even on these forums or wherever?

Should I post this elsewhere to get more or different answers?

I'd buy a setup like that for maybe 150 USD. There's a similar bundle on my Craigslist, iirc it's an X5650, 16GB DDR3, and some Asus board for $140.

I'd post it in our classifieds like @Crunchy Dragon said (If I had enough moolah I'd buy it off you), but I'd ask $170 or so at first. I got my mobo + CPU for $120 (ASUS Rampage III Formula and X5675), but that was without RAM, one tier lower of a mobo, and I met the guy in person and payed cash.

If you asked in the $150-170 range it would be very reasonable. And tempting. Very tempting. Maybe buy-another-x58 tempting for me.

Ebay would get you more, though it's a crapshoot.

I dislike Ebay because they gouged me on fees they weren't very clear about in the first place, and if you get a bad buyer they can take advantage of PayPal and eBay's strong buyer-biased policies and screw you over. eBay is great to buy from, sucks to sell from though.

Yep. The Asus R3E was going for stupid money on ebay a few months ago, but I've purposefully never sold through ebay because of fees and unethical buyers.

OP, if you are comfortable with ebay, it's probably your best bet for maximizing your return (not sure what they're going for now). If you do end up selling here, lemme know.

Which DDR3 2000 specifically? If its corsair, please post the version. There are some of those that are really sought after and easily sell for ~15$ for a single 2 GB DIMM (particularly ver 2.1 and 7.1). 150-170$ for a Rampage III Extreme and x5675 would probably be fair.

  • 2 weeks later...

SO, I upgraded my cooling on my X5670 from an Evo212 with a Noctua fan to a Cooler master MasterLiquid 240 Lite. At the same Overclock, temps dropped from mid to high 80C's to Upper 50C's. That is around a 30C drop in temps! Amazing!

Quick question: Have 4 sticks of 1600 Dominator ram in there for 32 gigs of ram. I know I don't use it all, would it make any speed difference to take out one stick and go to 24 gigs of triple channel versus the dual channel I have now?

It could help a little bit but honestly it wouldn't make a significant difference. Benchmarks would look better but in real world applications it shouldn't matter.

The noise levels are significantly lower. The temps are significantly lower as well. It's completely stable at 4.56Ghz. I'd say that is a huge improvement. At this point, it's doing multi-threaded processes almost as fast as my I7-6700K, which is overclocked to 4.7Ghz. At single threaded applications, it's faster now than my heavily (and just sold) overclocked I5-2500K @ 4.5Ghz. Overall, I'm very happy. I want to get the Cinebench score to over 1000. It's at 997, so very very close :)

All I did was spend $45US on a cheap coolermaster AIO. Totally worth it. My next experiment is to move my R9 Fury X from my main rig and see how it performs with the X5670.

I doubt I will, but if I can get just the motherboard for $150 or less, would that be a good deal? Would it be worth swapping my current motherboard (it would match my color scheme better)?

Any good places to hunt for cheap X58 motherboards, not looking to cross 4.2GHz on a X5660. Have 110 in the whole PC, all the boards I've seen so far cost more than my whole PC.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

I've kept an eye out locally. Trying to avoid Ebay at all costs.

Yeah, eBay is only good if you're looking for something very specific and it's not something that tends to be expensive but can be bought for cheap.

I didn't mean to comment about the AIO I was talking about the ram

I managed to get it over 1000. It's around 1017 completely stable. So, it runs multi pretty much just as fast as my 6700K overclocked to 4.7.
