12 cb points higher at 150 MHz slower clock speed though... RAM timings (that I didn't care about back when I did that run) and NB speed make some difference for cinebench results.

different chips do different things. I'm willing to try some other settings, but for now i'm at a stand still until memory shows up.  At the end of the day, you can only do what the silicon allows and what the board allows. I'm on a P6tdeluxe V1 which isnt the best board either

and it wasnt quite 150mhz lol.

Whats the upgrade consist of? I'm seriously considering hunting for an SR-2 board, but just cant bring myself to snap that kind of cash for an old ass board even on an impulse buy just to dick around with it. Been looking to see if there were any server boards with modded bios's for oc but have not really found anything yet either.

I think a pair of X56XX chips @ 4.6 would be nutty

I am doing a custom water cooling loop including both cpus, the gpu, and the chipset. And if you want a sr2 just keep looking, I found mine for 250 plus shipping. A guy was selling them in bulk

Oh.. there's a club!! I want in :)

So.. After completing my Socket775-modded X5460 build I needed a new project.. It turned out to become two projects...

Here's the X5460-build. Currently at 4.085GHz. It's a bummer it can't handle SSE4.2, so I can't try AC:O on it. It can run Rise of the Tomb Raider, but will drop to around 30fps in zones like Geothermal Valley regardless of graphics settings. Still very playable without stuttering. Most other games run just fine.

Abit IP35-E with custom BIOS found online

4x2GB Corsair XMS2 (I actually have changed to the big silver heatspreader variety since this was taken)

Coolermaster MasterLiquid 240 Pro

Modded NZXT S340 Elite to allow for push/pull with a couple of Fractal GP12 in the front

Cheapo Corsair LED Fans
Gigabyte GTX780Ti GHz Edition (underclocked -65Hz to remain stable. Voltage doesn't seem to matter) - $150 Used
2x Crucial MX500 256GB - 1x WD Black 500GB
FSP Group 650W Gold - Phanteks extentions
There's also a Delock PCI-E USB3-card with a front panel connector below the Gfx-card

untitled.thumb.JPG.ff389d14dedb165dd8b3aac1a60230a7.JPG

I managed to win a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R rev2, i7-950, 6x2GB Corsair XMS3 1333 and a KFA2 GTX570 for $150

It didn't boot because of "missing RAM", and I discovered some bent pins in the CPU socket. After some arguing with the seller, he says he will send me an Asrock X58 Extreme 3 (with an i7-920 mounted serving as protection, heh).

While I waited for it to arrive (had my doubts it would) I decided to rig my DSLR with my best magnifying lens on a tripod, and hooked it up to a monitor. I got a decent enough close up on the socket of the UD3R, so I went ahead with tweezers and a needle. After a lot of sweating, swearing and foul language, I actually got it all to boot. Despite one pin being damage beyond repair. All bent pins seem to be in the section for power delivery, FWIW.

So here's the i7-950/UD3R rig in its' current state, with aforementioned RAM and GPU (832/2100/1.088V NOISY AS ALL HELL!!!).

It's currently running at 3.75GHz (22x170/1.3625V). It seems to want a lot of volts when trying to go higher. Maybe because of damaged pins..

Fractal Design R4 with stock fans, and an EVO212. Got a Sandisk 128Gb SSD from a smashed laptop in there aswell.

Got an Asus GTX680 DirectCUII monster I got used for $100 on its' way aswell.

No idea what I'm doing with these two rigs other than poke around with 'em for my own amusement. Oh.. and then there's Asus P5E with a QX9650 (and 8GB of RAM) collecting dust on my kitchen table....

untitled-4.thumb.JPG.c69bec16bfac8c2014d852ec2a425e3e.JPG

So.. the Asrock mobo arrived, and I agreed with the seller I could keep both mobos for an extra $50

I ebayed an W3670 for $50, and got a kit of 4x4GB blue Vengeance 1600 used for about $80.

This is now my living room rig, hooked up to a projector for driving sims and casual hand controller gaming.
Asrock X58 Extreme 3

Xeon W3670 currently at 4.1GHz. (Will have to try some more overclocking now I have the 1600MHz sticks)

3x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 Blue (will fill the slots if I find a good deal on blue sticks)

EVGA GTX1060 6GB with backplate from Coldzero

Corsair RM650X with white cables

Coolermaster ML240L

Meshify C with two Noctua Redux 140mm in the top

2x Corsair LE200 256GB SSDs

PCI-E USB3 card for FP connection. (will have to sort that ketchup/mustard power cable extension)

@Glasare Those are awesome rigs! Looking through your post was so satisfying, you have nice machines and they look super nice too nice job! That is also pretty sweet that you got the bent pins to work, I have had to fix some in the past as well and I know how difficult it can be.

Very cool builds!

Just won another ebay auction on ANOTHER Asus P6t-deluxe X58 board. Guess i have to put another system together and use up the X5660 i have laying around now haha. Going to try to order some EEC memory and see if this board will boot with it this time as its a much more economical solution than trying to find regular DDR3 at the moment. Will probably be keeping this system as i want to build a storage server.

Be sure you don't buy registered memory, X58 boards doesn't work with registered memory. Normal ECC should work just fine, I have normal DDR3 and ECC memory mixed on my PC :D

Do you have the latest BIOS? Also, which mobo? And you can always just overclock the i7...

I am making very slow progress but I am in the middle of updating my EVGA SR-2 system. I was having some heating issues and so I am doing a full water cooling upgrade. I am moving from the NZXT S340 and transfering to the Lian-Li PC-08. I will be replacing the three front fans with Lian-Li bora rgb fans and my water cooling loops includes both cpus, the gpu and my chipset via a custom waterblock. Originally I wanted to do glass tubing but money is getting tight so for now I will be using EK black soft tubing

That is really strange, the only two things I can think of are that your motherboard and/or cpu are messed up or maybe someone found a way to give you an x58 quad core and somehow make it register as a 5650 in windows? I have no idea that is really strange.

Actually it may be an issue with your bios

That is really strange, the only two things I can think of are that your motherboard and/or cpu are messed up or maybe someone found a way to give you an x58 quad core and somehow make it register as a 5650 in windows? I have no idea that is really strange.

Actually it may be an issue with your bios

i dobule check the bios and it says all cores are enebled
