Cherry and Corsair announce "next generation" of mechanical keyboard switches

I know, but speaking in general you should have a good light source, like the room lights, when gaming. I can touch type as well on ipad and keyboard. I'm thinking about obtaining some PBT black blank keycaps but heard that the texture varies from manufacturer. But I signed up for a group uh for a complete set for $55, from Ivan on GH. So may buy it but can cancel it when I want.

Your monitor will light up your keyboard as well, and if you are older than ~15 and interested in computers then you should really know how to touch type. If you can't do it now then you should start training right away.

Selling my parts of my 900D rig for a jacked up Ncase M1. PM me for offers if interested (will take some reasonable-low offers because I'm desperate).

Parts that I'm selling: 900D (1 slot cover broken for stealth DVD drive mod) | Asus Z87 Deluxe | Cooler Master 212 Evo | Corsair 4x2GB black ram @1600mhz | EVGA 1000G2 PSU (2 cables with missing heat shrink) | DVD drive | HP membrane keyboard | Ducky Shine 3 YOTS in blue switches (warranty sticker broken)

Basically an mechanical APEX for Corsair. Sounds awesome.  I love the idea of more components getting RGB LEDs.  Imagine if you could make your whole PC glow from a cool blue to a fire red as temps raise.

So are these just normal Cherry switches with backlights in them? Lame... LEDs in keyboards and completely useless anyway. Really disappointed by this announcement. No idea why people are excited for this.

Aesthetics.

What, people can't get excited over aesthetics?

You might say people aren't going to change the colors all the time, which is true.  But if I'm looking for a keyboard I don't want to have to exclude a good keyboard from my list because it doesn't match my build.  And what if I want a more obscure color like purple or yellow?  (For example, the Logitech G710+ is awesome, but I wouldn't buy it because of the white backlight.)

It's fine if aesthetics aren't a big deal for you, but they're a big deal for a lot of us.  Not everything has to have a functional purpose to be awesome.

16 million colors is cool, I thought it was going to be an adjustable pressure switches, when I first read the article.

none the less, Excellent find!

+1 for you

... I find nothing exciting about this. Like roberto++ I saw this and thought, pressure sensitive cherry switches? wow that would be cool!!

.... But no, just using translucent plastic framing on the switches.. whats new and innovating about that? why is that CES worthy?

I mean, ok cool new colours but.... big announcement and first showing at CES???

Highly disappointed

Found this article on ToT a minute ago, this is quite interesting and the concept is looking good.

It's basically a normal Cherry MX switch (MX Red, Blue, Brown and Black, no "exotic" ones for now from wath we know), but with transparent bodies so that light can come through.

LEDs will be installed on the PCB from what we saw and it's going to have waaaay to much colors, since it's RGB :D

They're going to be announced at CES 2014 and I guess Linus will cover this anyways if he goes there.

What's your thoughts on this ? Good concept ? Why only Corsair keyboards (for now) and not other brands like Ducky, CM Storm, etc ?
