Hi everybody.

So as the title says I would like your opinion if my latest purchase is a scam or not (please find attached photos with details).

I have some experience on eBay purchases and I am not afraid if this turns out to be a scam, I will get refunded eventually.

The way I see, I'm 95% sure it's for real and 5% it's a scam. Let me clarify in a couple of words why:

So 95% not a scam because:

- the seller uploaded a lot of photos (I think he used all photos available when listing an item - scammers usually add 1 or 2 photos, max 3)

- the description is quite detailed (regarding the nvme at least - scammers don't usually care about those kind of details) and it matches with the photos

- the seller knows the RRP price (even though I used pcpartpicker to build the same pc and ended up with a total of @£1150)

And 5% is a scam:

- first of all when something is too good to be true, then it's not true :))

- the seller might own the PC (that's the real photos from) but he listed it as he is selling but not really selling

- the seller has 0 feedback (not really a problem as I have previously bought from 0 feedback sellers and received the item purchased as described)

- the seller stated that he IS in holiday and he wants a quick sale - if he is in holiday then how he will send the PC? If he thinks that he will receive the money straight away, he's a stupid scammer as the funds are not cleared in his account until I receive the item and provide feedback to him.

We shall see how it goes but until then cast your vote.

there is no way they can sell that spec for that price without loosing A LOT of cash so its either:

A) Stolen

B) Scam

you can send him a message with the request to send to you a picture of the computer with a note saying some kind of verification like we have to do in the Classified section.

Some people, at least here in the UK, they don't give a damn about their stuff. So might get lucky, again :).

There's no need for that. It's either I will receive it or not. I like excitement. Will wait :)) (what I don't like is that it'll take almost a month to have the money back in my account)

i hear you there i've lived in the uk for 37 years, and yes we tend not to care about our things but we also tend to over inflate the value of things when we sell them

I see different opinions. The level of excitement is in continuous rise :). Some votes are casted as well.

P.S. I got a feeling that I will be contacted by the seller saying something like it's not available anymore or similar.

Updates:

The seller has not responded yet to my messages.

The sellers name on PayPal is Zion Brown which sounds a little bit shady, not to mention that his profile photo from PayPal account seems a little bit not right (check picture if clear enough).

Now the balance has changed to 75% legit and 25% scam.

There's no way the seller is going to ship an entire assembled PC. Especially mr zero feedback.

Actually I don't think you're getting the whole PC. GTX 1070s have sold for around £370 on eBae.

You're getting just the 1070 then

I really can't believe that you still thinks it's not a scam. Did you hit a tree? A very solid one I mean.

I previously bought 3 x RX480 for £126 a piece off eBay right before mining craze. Did I hit a tree then as well when I received them next day at my door step? You never know. But as I said the balance started to incline towards the scam thing. Again, will see.

What he probably meant:

Intel Pentium IV 1700 MHz

GeForce FX-1070 (lmao does that exist)

25.6 GB HDD w/ 1 GB HDD probably broken

1512 MB Ram

750W broken cheap PSU that probably blew up.

other stuff probably worth total $2

Nonono it was a joke, but it seems like a scam since Ryzen 7 only came out in April, plus a 1070 is the cost of the entire system, same for 1700 . The entire system is almost a third of what he says he paid,so i'd definately say its a scam

Are you kidding? Before the mining craze, that means around 40 GPB saving per card at the time, buying used (or "new other" if you like), in bulk. There are like zero extraordinary savings in such a sale.

Now, on the other hand, you are talking about a PC selling at the eBay price of the GPU alone, by a seller who claims to be "very hurry in a holiday", yet chooses a slower method (buy it now) when he could just list the GPU alone in a 24-48 hours auction and get roughly the same amount.

It's hardly comparable, if at all.

Does it prove it is a scam? Obviously not. I see listings like these disappear (i.e., get removed by eBay) routinely, but they are typically less elaborate. Then again, I've seen this level of effort in Western Union scams involving rental properties before. But doing it with PayPal is rather stupid.

So, stupid seller or stupid scammer, your pick :P

So, I did a little bit more digging but no luck.

I would guess that this PC belongs to a friend of his and has spec list and photos of it (attached are all the photos from the ad).

Something doesn't sound right. He is stupid enough to think that he'll get the money but then again he's smart enough to put up a decent ad with complete list of specs and a lot of photos.

And I googled his eBay nickname and found out that he sold yesterday an iPhone 7 for £280. The description of it sounded like this "This item has some scratches, chips and/or dents, and comes with a charger and the original box great condition minor scratches and dent need to get rid of asap" (first part of it is eBay standard and the bold one is what he added).

Considering all of this, now I got to 50/50 chances.

P.S. I am aware of the cost of each component and that he could get almost all the money asked just for the graphics card. I am not stupid, just let's say I am a "gambler".
