The latest LTT video was bad. Here's why.

Okay, I don't care if I get banned or I get lots of hate from Linus' most loyal fans, but this isn't reddit and you can't downvote because you feel triggered by it so here's my complaints about this video.

It's mostly technical stuff, but I'd like to see it improved considering you have TWO FUCKI** RED HELIUMS:

1) [ 0:25 ] - LENONVO. Seriously? I'm sure it was a typo, will be corrected next tim- oh. [ 0:57 ] AGAIN?

This is what happens when your editor uses waaaay too many shortcuts and can't be arsed to spellcheck and correct a very simple mistake that catches the eye and is very annoying to look at.

2) [ 1:10 ] The CPUs falling down.

Another editing mistake, I KNOW that you pride your own speed and efficiency mr. editor (Not sure if it was Taran, but nonetheless I watched his very long editing tutorial and therefore I assumed it was him who edited this video) but you know, how long would it take to cut out the background of a fuckin* cpu? Seriously?

Look at THIS it's legit non-shopped (there's timestamp for proof) and you can see it's clearly a google taken picture that was thrown in the video without the least amount of effort.

Okay, say you can't be arsed to open photoshop for two whole minutes, grab the pen tool (or even the magic selection tool, considering the object is so simple) and cut out the white, how long would it take for you to write "png" or "render" after "Haswell" in your google search and obtain a render? My god.

3) [ 2:01 ] Those fingerprints.

70k+ of camera equipment, can't even polish the subject properly.

Oh right, I know that fingerprint stains can become permanent, but am I the only one who remembers a video made by Luke that addresses this issue directly? Considering nobody at LTT does this, then yeah I'm probably the only one.

4) [ 3:32 ] Out of focus thumbs up.

Oh Brandon. I shouldn't even be telling you. With those beautiful Sigma Cine Lenses and that marvelous RED camera that they gave you, why the fuc* did you make such a simple mistake?
Considering 70% of the parameters on that camera is metadata that can be fixed later, why the F*** couldn't you get the focus right?

It's not that hard you know. Considering you had to get two things in focus at the same time, why didn't you just put a higher f/stop value and increase the lightning? Or maybe put the thumbs up closer to the focal plane that you currently were using like in [ 4:11 ]? (That is not a good enough result either, but it's slightly better than out of focus galore)

5) Video quality.

This video was bad. Oh gaudy it was bad. Just by accident earlier while linking Luke's cleaning video I happened to watch it again and oh boy, the quality is SO much better. You shot that with an FS700 and Odyssey, and the quality was beautiful. Crisp, clear, well lit and composed.

Now you have 130k+ of camera equipment and the final result is THIS???

Color grading done so badly that you managed to make it lose information in the shadows and highlights, Terrible composition, terrible focus choice, everything has bright spots (made by the overhead lights you use) and overall it isn't a great thing to watch.

Why am I complaining so much? Because with 200k+ (total) equipment value you cannot present to us (the audience) such a quality with a straight face.

Check the comments on every red video you made, everyone who is a semi-competent videomaker complains that it looks much worse than MKBHD or Devin Graham (RED Users).

The RED is the simplest camera you can possibly use, it's literally foolproof. All you have to do is not screw up the focus, the composition and the histogram values (so even if you're shooting raw at base iso everything is not clipped or too dark) and the editor does the rest.

Why screw up the color so badly? Just use RedGamma4 and DragonColor color space, it will produce a brilliant result.

I know nobody worth a dime is going to read this (from inside the company that is) but if Taran or Brandon or Linus or someone else manages to read this please, step up your game because you're one of the biggest tech channels around and you really shouldn't give us a quality that an indian kid with 2000 subs can outdo with 1/200th of the budget.

Thanks.

I didn't even notice a single thing you've pointed out here when I watched it. These seem pretty minor issues that you're blowing way out of proportion. I liked the video, the things you've pointed out don't affect the video other than the production quality, which for a YouTube channel is first class already.

Expensive cameras =/= perfect video quality. You're watching videos that get uploaded to youtube daily, not a full TV show or movie.

For a while now, it's felt like they've been rushing out videos.

I think in the past, in AMD  GPU videos they've gotten clockspeeds wrong and some other basic specs wrong.

Yeah, editing mistakes happen when editing is rushed.

Yes, this is a low production quality moment in the video and looks like a beginner video editor added it in last minute.

Fair point, it does look out of focus. I guess Brandon & the video editor realized this and decided it wasn't worth their time to re-shoot the B Roll.

They do a lot more color grading than I personally think they should.

I won't even bother with the other who would even be fine with a cheap trash shot with a budget camcorder because "hey it's ltt, everything is good if they do it"

I don't hate ltt, I have been following them since 2012, mine is just constructive criticism and I really don't feel like it's necessary for their defense force to attack me as if I've insulted them directly.

Shooting at 8K allows you to have amazing results, even in 4k or 2k.

It isn't about budget because they literally have unlimited budget (maybe only hollywood productions have more money than them) and it's not even about workforce because in every new video you see a new face, a new addition to the team.

Nah I miss when LTT was more relaxed, the best LTT videos are the ones Linus and Luke are just themselves and they have fun while filming something, going around the office, showing back stage stuff, more simple means and all... lately they are way too try hard... then again I'm not the show's audience any more... which seems to be more and more shifted towards running nose children meme addicts that qq to their parents to get over priced rigs...

Saw a thread the other day of a 14 years old that was complaining his parents got him a "used" rig and he hated it, it was an i7 4790k + GTX 980ti + 16gb ram lol

Any ways as you mentioned here:

I will be honest I watch and like RandomGaminginHD videos far more than LTT's nowadays, and his is literally just one guy with no sponsoring what so ever pretty much... go figure why this stuff happens.... although truth be told LTT has the best tech forum by a long mile still reason why I support it yet.

I addressed this in my comment too.

As an example, Luke's video in the old studio (which was shot with maybe 10k of camera equipment) was SO much better than what they are producing now.

I feel like it's because back then with limited budget and workforce you really had to plan out your ideas, you had that camera and that equipment and they made very excellent videos where they worked around the limitations and possible solutions for their particular setup.

Nowadays they just buy very expensive stuff and complain about the cost / drawbacks when it's clear they're playing with stuff that is out of their range.

RED footage needs to be treated with care, it can deliver a lot of good stuff if you know how to use, and certainly (sadly) it isn't something that you can mass produce on a daily basis.

For their kind of videos I think they would have been better served with 3-4 Canon C500s with respective Atomos recorders, for a fraction of what they spent on the REDs.

Maybe with time the videos will improve, but right now the quality is sub-par even when compared to footage from cameras that cost a fraction of the RED.

The only good quality video they shot with RED was the sponsored 8K one for the desk pc. But it's clear that they've put MUCH more thought and care into what they were doing, because it was a one-time situation there. @Slick might agree with me on this.

BY THE WAY on the indian thing: it was a random example, because I know (and follow personally) a lot of tech youtubers who are indians and produce honestly impressive content with the equipment they have. I didn't mean to be racist (lol) or anything else.

To me, it seems like you're going way too in-depth about some very minor issues. Yes, I get how some of the issues are there and can be a small annoyance, but you've got to remember that these are videos they are producing for us to watch for free. You don't pay for their videos. And to be free videos, they're damn good (some of them, others are just too cheesy) in my opinion.

I think one of the problems is that they are pressed for time/are to stressed out/bored of doing it or something like that. Their videos was better before, and when Brandon hosts a video, the b-roll or general camera work do seem a lot better than the normal videos, from what I have seen, in my opinion. It might be that I am biased towards those videos, I dont know.
Probably because at those videos, Brandon can either take more time to do them, or enjoy working on them more.

Cheesy aside, I'm complaining because they are a 4.5 million subs channel with extremely good resources and the content they produce (quality wise, nowadays) is much worser than when they had fewer people and less budget.

I wouldn't complain if they had like, 100k subs or less, or if they weren't LTT, because they're a staple in the tech community and they should be top notch everytime, considering the amount of care and effort @LinusTech has put into this company.

"For free" isn't a great argument because literally thousands of other people do it for free as well and the quality is better.

Daily? GMM used to be daily, there are many talk shows that are daily (GMM was shot with GH4 + Atomos and RED and it was daily) so it isn't really an issue there.

[SMALL OT: this is like Reddit, looking back every single post that isn't mine or that was against what I'm saying has "thumbs up" and "agree", I'm literally cringing, but at least there are 2-3 people ITT whom you can have a decent argument with]

I think your response would be much better received if you took he time to make it more professional than the content you wrote about.

Your message is taken seriously if you can relay it without cursing and belittling others. You're not expressing adequate feelings about content. Maybe add some of your own experience if you actually have any.

I suggest you read the whole comment again, you'll see i've put plenty of constructive criticism, I blacked out all the cursing and I didn't belittle anyone.

In the first line, you say that you didn't belittle anyone, yet on the second line you try to make @Ryujin2003 seem unimportant? Really? That's the point of what they were trying to say. You're making an opinion, but not accepting everyone else's opinions about the same topic. Not everyone feels the same way about LTT's videos. They do have a certain "filmed in the garage with one camera and no editing" "style" at some points, if you will, but that's what makes LTT, well, LTT. They try to have a good laugh and talk with their audience. It's perfectly understandable why their videos aren't "professional" enough. If you watched their videos like most people do, you'd see that they try to engage with their audience. You see what I mean?

But yeah, "2003" I don't expect a 14 year old to understand. Please, stand aside.

Ok....

I read the whole comment. I speak English. Blacking out is not the same as not putting it in there. The cursing message is still sent, which degrades the strength of your agrument and points.

Also, I'm not 14. I created this user ID in 2003 to play games online with my PS2 after getting the modular modem attachment. I'm 31, so stop being a troll, and stop assuming you know everything

Lastly, it's funny, the guy who claims he's just trying to give a little constructive criticism cannot take any.

Why did I bother to post?? Because I have issues with LTT content at times too. And it's irritating when members of our community try to express this to the creators of the content, and cannot put together a coherent message.

Yes, many people disagreed with you, and some did. When people try to help you and flag your post so it can get some attention, it only helps to make it a bit more professional than what you wrote.

We are staying on topic. You need to. Do you understand my point that I made in my previous comment?
