[Stage one complete!] Shoebox 2.0 buildlog

598a2a987de3c_BUILDLOGBANNER.png.20bcf5d6803f22cd8157fb093ede6693.png

Alright, so i bought an InWin 301 out of impulse, and now i'm stuck with it. So i figured i might aswell transplant my current build into it!

So spec wise nothing is really going to change, except ofcourse the case and a few other things.

My build right now:

Spoiler

I7 4960X

Asrock X79 Extreme 4-M

32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum

Nvidea GeForce Titan X Pascal (1st gen)

Corsair RM550X

Plextor M6E PCIe SD

2 SATA SSDs

Full soft watercooling loop

20170415_125146.thumb.jpg.1ec20819e8f88524458a58c07ac2721c.jpg

The plan:

-Transplant the system in the new case, but aircooled and upgraded

-Figure out how to do a custom rigid loop in this case

-Build said custom rigid loop

-Profit!

For now this is it.

The InWin case should arrive in a couple of days, so stay tuned for updates!

Try selling the case to see how much you get it for?

if you are going to watercool your rig i suggest you look for a better alternative. stock evolv airflow is pretty horrible for radiators :(

My Evolv? I can't sell it, I picked it as my 18th birthday present because I wanted something I could keep for years and not need to replace.

I know. So I'll stick with air cooling, or just go with a loop for looks and plan it properly with slim rads and push-pull fans, maybe a case mod. Still a beautiful piece of engineering.

As long as it isn't as hot, I should be good. ;)

And I'll probs be cooling a Ryzen 5 1600 and 980 Ti (mebbe SLI later on), not some X299 CPU and dual 1080 Tis.

oh it's not that hard to be honest, my current build uses the mATX evolv. it's justthat the air intakes/exhausts of this case are very restricted, and adding a radiator to those (even a slim one) will suffocate airflow even more.

i'm using 2 240 rads in this case and if i take the panels off my temps drop a solid 10 degrees during synthetic load scenario's :(

Title makes me want to do a build in an actual shoe box...

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

That isn't a shoebox. The 6700k build I've done in the Fractal Core 500 is a shoebox.

Just FYI but I'm pretty sure  dual 980 ti gives off the same amount of heat as dual 1080 ti

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

Yeah. But the CPU doesn't give off near what a high end Intel chip does.

well, the title is in reference to my first ever PC, which was a MSI NIghtblade. exactly the same volume as a shoebox!

alright, this is kinda how i see the waterloop turning out as of right now. it's gonna be a very tight fit, and i'll have to make some very tight bends, but i think it is doable.

let me know what you think, or where to improve!

Case aquired! Well technically i bought this a while ago, but it just got delivered.

Anyway, i won't be building in this just yet (sadface) I gotta work all weekend and i'll probbaly only have time to start this project off coming monday or teusday.

On the plus side however, this does mean that by then i should have my new shiny watercooling stuff too! :D

For now here's some shots of the case.doos.thumb.jpg.cdb169ba9626b4d336ea314eb2a7c065.jpg

and some shots in comparison with my current build inside the mATX Phanteks Enthoo Evolv:

it doesn't seem much smaller, but it really feels much more compact. especially with that top mounted PSU!

also, screw this sites 20MB upload limit. guess i'll have to turn down the quality for all upcoming pics :(

Here's a easy step by step of how to drain a cooling loop without a drainport;

Step 1: plan carefully

20170812_113624.thumb.jpg.64397593c155c1bac6219c947f660466.jpg

Step 2: create a mess

I mean , really just fuck your shit up.

There's nothing like watching coolant drip off a motherboard is there? :P

Anyway, progress now stops untill monday/tuesday. Gotta work in a few minutes and i have to leave a few parts to dry.

Yeah you really should add a fill and drain port when you make your loop. I didn't really have space for one and I didn't want it to be in the line of sight so I just never made one.

It saves a lot of trouble tho if you add one :P

Oh, my loop is pretty basic the only thing I really need to do something about is emptying the rad that's it
