Will this motherboard support 6 GPUs for mining?

So, is this gonna work if I use 6 RX 480s and connect using risers for mining ether or other currencies

I am assuming you have those 6 RX 480s? Because you can't get them otherwise. And It would be better to invest that minimum $1,200 USD you have there in something tangible.

And no, that board could only theoretically have 3 GPUs

With PCIe x1 to x16 risers you can run 6.

@notifications Yes it's possible.

ahh, I'm assuming that the data exchanged for mining between the GPU and the board isn't very massive then? Since its running on 1x?

nope, for mining the link speed doesn't matter.

Would it work for mining ether?

You can run x1 splitters to 4 x16 slots and still be fine. Well, you'd need a PLX bridge for the switching, but x1 is completely fine because the data you need is only about 2.4GB in size if you're mining Ethereum.

Yes it'd be fine. That is how many people mine, with 6 graphics cards and splitters. Make sure to overclock the memory on each card though.

No wonder there arent any GPUs.

Potatoes can mine!

Potatos can mine.

Nah, they don't have enough VRAM. You need at least 3GBs of VRAM to mine, and at least 4GB to have a safe buffer.

Imo 3GB is pretty potato tier.

Nvidia thought it was ok to give people 3GB on a $200+ card though so who knows.

youll have to use either a linux distro or heavily modified windows to get 6 cards going since windows doesn't support 6 by default last i checked
