At the moment only the 6-core Intel is remotely interesting of any of these. If multithreading is your thing, go with R7. If pure gaming is your thing go i7. If mixed workload is your thing get the i9 7800k. Even that seems like a waste of money when 6-cores are going to be hitting the Intel mainstream in such a short amount of time.

The majority of these CPUs satisfy a niche of a niche of a niche. The number of pure gamers on the internet pining over a 16 core Threadripper that will, at best, perform identically to an R5 1600X/i5 7500 is absurd. Unlike Ryzen 7 it doesn't even make sense to expect gaming to be able to use 32 threads effectively in a remotely sane time-frame, maybe if ever.

I don't buy the idea that X299 has been a "shit show", just because an 18 core processor is $2000, I think the price of such an absurd product for the consumer market is completely arbitrary.

The real shakeup will be Ryzen 2, hopefully allowing AMD to break the 4 GHz barrier.

Yep, you're seeing CPU Input Voltage.  ASRock does that with Haswell and Haswell-E where they report CPU Input voltage as VCore in the BIOS main screens, but when you dig deeper in the FIVR section, you'll discover that it's actually VCCIN (CPU Input) and not VCore.

Go into Windows and use HWinfor64 to read your CPU VCore.  https://www.hwinfo.com/download.php

Post a screen shot of the voltages.

its the CPU for the Toaster Project, you wont see any screenshot like that for another three months probably at the best lol. anyway then why would they have a thing labled VCCIN right bellow that then at 1.52V? this is a server motherboard so if this is the case i cant be the first one thats surprised AF about it, also my ASRock Z97 annaversairy does not do this

The voltage circled in this picture appears to be CPU VCore, but it's not.  It's the voltage fed to the Haswell CPU's FIVR, which is located on the chip so ASRock chose to label it as CPU Voltage, which it technically is.

The problem is that most people don't understand the Fully Integrated Voltage Regulator (FIVR) on Haswell or Haswell-E so this confuses them.

It is not VCore.

The voltage labeled as CPU Voltage on ASRock boards is the CPU Input Voltage (VCCIN) to the FIVR.  From the FIVR, it's broken down into the separate  voltages needed within the CPU such as VCore and so on.

It's confusing, but the way they did it as actually right.  The rest of the MB manufacturers actually do it wrong on purpose because they know it freaks people out to see such high numbers for "CPU Voltage".

Ok, this might be a long one.

For starts Ill base myself a bit on what Linus said on hes Video because thats the main points. So the hole x299 platform in my eyes are pure bullshit, so intel thought : - Ok ryzen is a huge improvement, and AMD announced a 16C/32T oh jeez,   we need to get something out! So lets put a 2 before the two 9 we already have and change some speeds. Ok there we go, 2k for the flagship 500 for the mobo get the train started fellows!

But its just a huge mess, it doesnt feel something like intel would do, it feels rushed and not planned as it should be.... They legit over night went from mainstream LGA 1511 and shoved it onto the LGA 2066, same PCIe lanes (wtf intel??)and then dependent on the X cpu you can have 2 sets of  dual channel memory or 1 single set of quad channel memory, as Linus said basicly you can buy a CPU that has dimm slots that dont work???? Plus You acctually loose features in the x299 compared to the x99 platform, like programs that need integrated graphics to run, yeah say bey bey to those.

Im not saying aswell jump to the Threadripper hype train, what im saying is Im not spending my money with intel this time, I think they just thought maybe all their buyers would go: Ohhh EXTREME IS HERE LETS JUMP INNN. But im not jumping in, I mean if ThreadRipper reaveals itself as a huge flop I might re think all this, but as it stands im not going into the intel hype train, I think they have taken for granted all their consumers, and they forgot there are another companies in the game.

Anyways this was just my opinion, didnt ment to offend or whatever to anyone, so Cheers everybody.

(I may be missinformed on some stuff, tho prob not, but if you think I am, quote it please)!

id be fine with it if it said CPU voltage, but the fact that its labled VCORE has me worried seeing as that is the voltage the core should be running at but you are probably right with this tbh, il clear CMOS and see if it persists, maybe even contact ASRock to make sure tbh

100% agreed with you in alot of points there, 2k  for an 18 core processor I can go with that no problem really the thing is the way it was made, as I said before the X299 is a "shit show" not because of the price, but because of the rushed and not racional decisions that were made by intel.

Cheers!

Check with AsRock's A-Tuning and check the VID, because AsRock motherboards aren't very good at reporting Vcore :P

Yeah, if someone was actually running 1.7+ volt VCore with Haswell or Haswell-E, they'd know it fast.  It wouldn't take much of a load to drive thermals absolutely through the roof.

I expect ryzen threadripper to be great, but with that being said I am waiting to see what all the options are before I buy (I expect it to be AMD though) just in case intel pulls something out their arses which makes X299 good, but if I can't use RAID 1 or maybe 5 without paying for it, fuck it AMD you need my money take it :P cause I could use those RAID configs very easily
