Man what to do with all those PCIe lanes is now the question, since ridiculous SLI configs are out.

I'm thinking more about VM allocation: 16 gamers 1 CPU (with 2 EPYC processors so each gamer gets 4 cores, 8 threads worth of Zen arch)

And people in the super high-end workstation area will appreciate being able to hook up 8 FirePros to a single CPU :D

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

and with 128 lanes on the EPYC sku's, oh man its gonna get crazy what people with money to burn will do

-EDIT- Thats 16 GPUs you could feasibly hook up at one time. O.o

Damn Noctua on it fast.  I wonder if their previous cooler options will be compatible from the looks of the article they will be on Intel's platforms but not on AMD's.

You are probably right, TR4 is massive compared to 2066, if you thought 2066 was big, think again :P

http://www.pcworld.com/article/3198924/computers/amds-tr4-threadripper-cpu-socket-is-gigantic.html

Even if they make older coolers somehow fit the baseplate would be so small so it wouldn't even make sense.

ThreadRippers socket is TR4 (ThreadRipper + AM4) hope that helps you remember. and I hope people just refer to Threadripper as TR.

OOOOOOooooh that makes sense! Well yea that helps a lot actually, thanks :)

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

So, does this mean Intel will have to math again, and come up with something new? No 399 for Intel in the future?

Nothing really extra above what I added to the OP. Intel is currently on X299 so yeah maybe.

But you can't even fit that in a case so I'm not sure what the use case is where you'd have single socket but a bagillion pcie cards.

mining on gpus is pointless though at this point. Cost more in energy than you would get out of it
