For AMD, a die that big would be insanely costly. But 2 half size dies are actually a lot (less than half) cheaper to produce due to the way silicon wafers turn up defective, so it makes sense that they're pushing toward multi-die configurations.

i know this . EPYC 32 core is 4 8-core dies connected with infinity fabric . Thread-ripper would be 2 -8 core dies .

ASIC actually stands for Application Specific Integrated Circuit . It refers to any logic circuit that's not an FPGA . That includes stuff like gpu's , CPU's , SOC etc . It's not only bitcoin mining hardware specifically.
