My point is,  why pay premiums for max-q gtx1080 when you can get a laptop gtx1070 for much less with the same performance and power consumption?

Because maybe size and weight are more important than absolute performance to some people? Why do people spend $200 more for a MacBook Air when they can get a Dell XPS 13 with the same, if not better, specs? It's not like they need macOS for anything.

My 165hz ips gsynch monitor from Asus needed 2 replacements after discovering loose parts, flickering,  dust,  blb and yellow tint.

Darn double post...

I gotz bleeds, it doesn't really bother me, but if your paying premium you should receive perfection imo.

But you don't get a lighter or smaller notebook from that. Your own 15" laptop might say 1080 instead of 1070, the performance, size and weight remains the same. It's probably just more expensive.

Don't believe you're considering the weight of the cooling solution there.  A top GPU massively downclocked won't need as much, or as aggressive cooling.

That said, I'm with you.  Loosing that much performance is, and always has been a crap deal for the consumer.  The mobile GPU shenanigans don't seem to have changed one bit.

Craptops and beast cabinets at home still the best way to fly.

Well, significantly downclocking a 1080 could lead to lower temps/power consumption than a 1060 clocked higher. So, from a value standpoint it obviously doesn't make sense, but it could theoretically be the only way to get a certain level of power within a certain temperature/power threshold.

I'm not saying that's necessarily the case as I don't know at what clockspeeds Pascal is most/least efficient.

If that's the case,  I'm all for it,  but then I would like another naming scheme and a proper pricing.

Well, it would still be using a GTX1080 chip and thus the it would cost as much as a normal clocked 1080. And it is still using a 1080, so a 1080 is the appropriate name.

The ROG Zyphirilililikilhdjdhxj will coast 2699usd for the gtx1080 model and not be louder than 40DBa,  which fits in what nvidia said about MaxQ,  having a 40Dba limit. (source HWC video about the rog zephyudjfjfjdb)

I don't know,  I'm thorn about this. I really don't like the announcement of cool stuff where there are no pre-done reviews released along side it. Maybe I'm just to antsi pants about tech.

I will add the product he mention in the photo tomorrow, I accidentally closed the tab when I was editing the OP twice.

Read somewhere they're planning to start production later this year around September.
