yeah, I would rather AMD just put an FPS counter, is it that bad that you cant show VEGA performance on an AMD sponsored game...

Judging by NVIDIA's graphs, the GTX 1080 in a MAX-Q laptop isn't even getting double the performance of a GTX 1060. So there's a lot of sacrifices being made here.

But still, they managed to get the GeForce 10 series to work in both laptops and desktops without much in the way of a performance difference. So maybe unicorns do exist.

I did a bunch of reading about Max-Q and im really sad about the results. What i managed to gather from all the informations postet on tech sites:

 Performance:

Max-Q GTX1080 = Laptop GTX1070

Max-Q GTX1070 = Bit over Laptop GTX1060

Max-Q GTX1060 = 20% slower than Laptop GTX1060 (GTX1050Ti level?)

Don't really see the benefit of droping more money on a Max-Q GTX1080 if you can get a GTX1070 for much less money. I was hoping to see identical performance by reduced thermals and noise. :( I'm not due for a system update at all, but new tech is exciting and gives me an idea for a future rig.

Yeah, I dont see why AMD is so vague with VEGA its really annoying

"Vague-a"?

And I agree, it is very annoying.  I get that AMD doesn't want to leak everything, but they're playing things so close to the vest when right now is when they need to be building up the hype.

They built the hype back in January (remember to make some noise? lol). That hypetrain has long passed.

Can you post a source? I've heard only rumors about HBM2's yields.

Industry sources - couple with AMD in Canada, and some press on the floor at Computex.

Basically the rumors are pointing in right direction.

I won't able to update as frequently in next 1.5 day sadly as I am very busy with work and school. So, It would be lovely if you guys can message or reply to this thread of relevant news links and i will add to OP ASAP. If you are looking for most up to date it far better to head over to New sub forums. I will updating the whole post way before Saturday (UTC+10:00), most likely Friday afternoon.

Looks like Skylake-X uses thermal paste.

So if you thought Kaby Lake was hard to cool, these chips have much higher TDP (let's wait for reviews to see power consumption) and low-performance, high reliability thermal paste (according to der8auer, the paste they use just will not degrade, which isn't the case with conventional paste or even liquid metal TIM).

According to the video, it's also very risky to delid these chips because sometimes there is glue over sensitive components that, when pressured, will come off with the glue. Sad times.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Can you post the link from which you got the 15% number from?

Not willing to screenshot a text from source in Taipei... sorry.

Take it as a grain of salt, but just wanted to make sure you guys were getting what I'm told is the complete picture before jumping to conclusions.

This is coming from a press source - at Computex who is unable to print.

Cant go into anymore detail - sorry - again, take with a grain of salt, but just what has been relayed to me.

This is some grade A speculation, love it.

even if this is 100% accurate this is only 1 second of a few min demo. this could be close to min FPS or Max who knows. also keep in mind for crossfire inefficacy.

A 1080Ti gets around 85fps at 4k ultra, and I assumed about 70% XFIRE scaling. That would yield around 130fps. Of course it's complete speculation as my post clearly implied. And yes, it is just a single frame, but the frame isn't out of place with the rest of the video.

My point is,  why pay premiums for max-q gtx1080 when you can get a laptop gtx1070 for much less with the same performance and power consumption?

It's like slaping a GT-R badge on a nissan micra but asking for the same price as a R35 GT-R. (bit extreme i know)
