no idea what 1170 will be released or what performance improvements it will have, get a 1070 or wait for vega.

You need to provide more info bud.

What resolution do you play on? 1080p, 1440p, 2160p? What refresh rate is your monitor? What kind of games are you playing? AAA games, or e-sports?

Main:  1650 v2   @ 4,6GHz   -   X79 Deluxe                -   GTX 1080 @ 2000MHz   -   24GB DDR3 @ 2400MHz / CL10

Side:   i7-4790K @ 4,5GHz   -   Maximus 7 Hero        -   GTX 1070 @ 2114MHz    -  16GB DDR3 @ 2666MHz / CL12

asking "if you should wait" is a bad idea, because there'll *ALWAYS* be something new on the horizon, it's a matter of buying it when you need it, or you'll end up waiting forever.

VOLTA is huge.

I estimate the 1170 will be at 1080Ti level.

Ryzen 1700 @ 4.1ghz - 16GB 2400mhz Ripjaws V - ASUS ROG Crosshair VI - RX 580 Strix Crossfire.

From my understanding VOLTA is aiming mostly for editing and process cards like the Quadro line and not much of its perks will effect gamers.  May be wrong though and please correct me if I am.

  • CPU
    i7 6700k overclocked to 4.7 GHZ @1.38v
  • Motherboard
ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero Alpha
  • RAM
    32GB Gskill Ripjaws @3200mhz
  • GPU
    ASUS ROG Geforce 980
  • Case
    CoolerMaster HAF X
  • Storage
500 GB SSD and 12TB mechanical HDD some soon to be split to NAS
  • PSU
    EVGA 1000 G1

Just over 800 mm square sized die, not sure on transistor count but expect it to be almost 2x more than Pascal, it will rape and pillage Pascal even trickled down from TESLA or Quadro, i would put my money on this being the difference between 90nm 8800GTX vs the predecessor with the introduction of TESLA.
