$500 4K HDTV from Tiger Direct!!!

DexTer

I'm not entirely sure if this belongs in the news section but it caught me off guard when looking through my email so it's news to me. :P

Now I know it's only 30Hz at 4K. But how long ago was it when 4K was starting at $18,000?

I don't necessarily agree as I would rather want to see 4K in my room by now. But I wouldn't mind the 2K, I think it's just too late for 2k TV's as most people who don't know more will think 3 times before going for a 2k 60fps over a 4k 30fps (In my opinion 4k@30fps is enough for a TV).

As for PC's I would still get 2k over 4k.. not only for the 60fps but GPU horsepower too :D.

So why haven't we seen any 4K 30" displays that are around the £1000 mark. I would buy one when they drop below £1000 though as I am only an apprentice. So money is very very slim.

I personally don't enjoy 9-string guitars, but that doesn't change the fact that they look awesome as hell!

Probably 120hz at 4k?

4k= 4 times as many pixels as 1080p. So 120/4? I don't know.

Hmm :/ doesn't make sense why they'd put the 1080p refresh rate.

Marketing.

To trick people to think that it's 120hz

Plus, they would have to be loosing money if they produced a 4k tv @120hz for $500

So if I understand correctly it's because HDMI only supports 30Hz at 4K with this TV?

Why is does everyone keep talking about 2K as a new thing? 2K for consumers is 1080p, simple.  ;)

2K and 4K refers to the horizontal resolution.

For consumer grade we have:

1080p = 1920 horizontal by 1080 vertical. 1920 -> 2K.

4K has, as we know, 4 (4=2*2) times the pixels of 1080p. It has twice the pixels in both axis, so 3840 horizontal ("4K") and 2160 vertical.

Oh, and "MultiQuote" ;)

2k not= 2MP

The line width is measured horizontally, so you see 4K panels have 3840 horizontal lines, a 4k TV will have over 8mil pixels, a 1080P TV will have 1920 lines, so we call it 2K despite it's having 2mil pixels it is still not related in that way.

2560x1600 is 4mil pixels, but we can call it 2.5K.

4K displays have roughly 4x the number of pixels, but only twice the number of horizontal lines, the confusion could come from not realising that in order to increase the number of horizontal lines and still maintain the aspect ratio the number of vertical lines must also increase.
