MS has been in my opinion the greatest driving force for Linux adoption as of late.

 

I for one have been seriously looking into getting rid of my windows partition (I'm dual booting).

 

I'm sick of the built-in bloatware and telemetry and their dishonesty in regards to it.

 

The only thing that has kept me from switching entirely is gaming, but it's getting to the point of not being a good enough excuse anymore.

not even close, most people don't care, especially people with jobs who rely on windows.

Just be like: arrrr, and fudge it. There are moar and moar thingies poping up on how to break the spyware part of windows 10.

Mint, maybe. I already use Puppy Linux on older laptops that can't really handle Windows 7 or 10.

 

In general though, I don't see my main desktop and main laptop leaving Windows.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

I really don't care about the telemetry - if you keep it on basic they keep data on apps that crash, hardware, games run, etc. Big fucking deal. Bloatware is subjective - I use the apps on my tablet but not on my desktop. 

 

Linux is never going to go mainstream - too much missing for too many people.

especially me, my work requires lots of windows programs. Linux is good but has so many issues, using Linux as a primary OS kinda seems pointless for most people.

I already switched to using Linux as my main OS. I use Windows 8.1 for Windows-only applications.

I don't understand this. I converted my entire office to Linux last year. It's been so stable since that I have have little to do at work and have taken on other responsibilities to fill my time. Hardware is anywhere from new to 3-4 years old. 50+ workstations and a large server rack.

I do not plan on "switching" any time soon to a Linux based operating system as my daily driver. I might use it on a test machine, or a laptop, but not on my main desktop where I am most comfortable.

look at my setup it's a very high-end setup Linux doesn't have all the drivers to make it work well as windows. games are another issue, from older titles such as halo to new AAA games are mostly released on windows. linux is a good system for hardcore fans but for most people it won't work. my job mostly working with cad, rivot and other 3d programs. as someone already said, support is a big issue, windows get more support from 3rd part devs. yes linux might work for you but for most people, it takes too much effort, i am not that concerned. for me OSX(on the go)+windows( gaming and powerful computer for work)+android( nexus 6p)+ IOS( i phone 7plus) is a good mix.

Yeah I would be keen but as other have said not worth it for all the effort. Agree with @Terryv I would love to have my entire office running it as would have made my job way easier as it is a better OS, BUT for me personally. Nope, Not even as a VM as W10 I really enjoy and does exactly what I need it to do. Keep your PC clean and dont download Crap and windows runs well :)

I've already basically switched, although not for their business practices -- that's just where the world is going whether we like it or not. No, I switched because I hate Windows, so I use my Mac 99% of the time and when I want to game I use my desktop running W10.

 

But Linux will never become mainstream. Microsoft has too much control and Linux is far too fragmented with not enough support and too steep a learning curve to ever gain traction in the market.

I have mostly switched off of windows, all of my computers run Linux, and the only computer that had windows 10 on it only boots into windows for 1 program that I use on a rare basis, the only windows only program that I use for school is Visual Studio and I just remote to my desktop for that class or just boot into Windows 7.

First it needs good software/driver support/a simple update system. Then it needs to not be fragmented. Then if it loses its dependance on terminal, then it has a chance.

well, there's NO VAC on linux at all - there is undetected pub cheats and you can modify the memory live using Linux functions. 

it's amazingly broken, and i've been in games where someone has blatantly spinbotted and then spammed 'AIMTUX' in the chat

If they had the same support for gaming on linux I would drop windows without thinking twice. It's horrible

I already switched to linux entirely about 3-4 years ago. Even my phone which i am writing from runs one linux distros Sailfish OS. Also we use Linux at my work servers ate running on linux too.

 

I do not recomend windows to anyone. If you can switch to linux. Yes it's hard at first but trust me. In the end you will  be happy that you have switched to it.

Computer users fall into two groups:
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.

I've been considering switching for a long time, but currently am still to reliant on Windows and macOS only software, like Adobe CS6, Affinity Designer/Photo, and quite a few games. When those become fully supported on Linux though, man oh man, I'm switching. Spotify and Dropbox are already there (unlike Google Drive, iCloud, OneDrive, or iTunes) so with any luck more software will follow.

Already made the switch, I only use my manjaro box to meet my daily shitposting quota.

 

The gaming machine with windows 7 on it is only there for gaming.

I deal in shitposts and shitpost accessories.
