Great explanation... if it was true.  Apple is Honda in this situation, Lamborghini doesn't just offer good looking cars, they sell AMAZING looking cars that also run better than 90% of the competition.  Apple makes awesome looking phones that run worse than the competition while said competition (LG, Samsung, Huawei etc.) makes phones that  look (IMO obviously) as good or better

You been to China recently? Last I checked thats exactly what they do, when I was in Shenzhen in '11 every marketstall had ~250usd iPhones on display, somehow with full plastic casings and running a modified Android OS.

You're more likely to expect a higher price tag from Lamborghini, Even it was a dead car. It's the brand you are paying for and the reputation of it even if it runs like shit. Just the brand gives it the higher price

but.. that doesnt factor in the manufacturing, engineering, the OS they specificly tailored for the device, factoring in the cost of needing to run the services behind it, factor in overhead for factory failures RMA's (because you damn well know that's gonna happen), shipping all over the world, and then still run a profit. we'll see how well you try to sell that thing below $100

the thing with books is, they are quite literally a form of art, which makes them worth whatever people are willing to pay for them. is $300 a hilareously large sum? yes, absolutely. are people willing to pay that price to look like absolute snobs? yes, absolutely. are people willing to pay millions for a piece of canvas with some paint slapped onto it? yes, absolutely.

that last part doesn't includes research and development, testing time, paying coders, mass producing the watch, shipping it across the world, shipping it to the store or paying the person who sold it too you.

and as for apple's actual price to bom cost ratio, it is actually not higher than similar products made by other companies, they just make very expensive stuff for people with a very expensive taste.
