It's called:

  • the same product in multiple stores will vary in pricing greatly
  • and it was probably on sale on amazon.

Sometimes a store just has a worse price they buy it in for and they have to price it like that

Or the lesser demand requires a higher price to warrant giving it shelf-space.

Great explanation... if it was true.  Apple is Honda in this situation, Lamborghini doesn't just offer good looking cars, they sell AMAZING looking cars that also run better than 90% of the competition.  Apple makes awesome looking phones that run worse than the competition while said competition (LG, Samsung, Huawei etc.) makes phones that  look (IMO obviously) as good or better

Huh?

I was just saying it might not be legal to obtain the software/not legal to install the software (or at least against Apple EULA)

You're more likely to expect a higher price tag from Lamborghini, Even it was a dead car. It's the brand you are paying for and the reputation of it even if it runs like shit. Just the brand gives it the higher price

EDIT: Just to be clear I am not backing apple on their stupid prices.

Apple makes awesome looking phones that run worse than the competition

They are actually pretty close due to the software optimisation by Apple engineers

I was at an apple store to pick up a mobile controller that was $25 on amazon. The cashier said $50 plz. Mistake #1. then, I did some research on the apple watch, and if you bought a 42mm apple watch from apple, that would be $400. If you bought the PARTS for an apple watch and put it together yourself (Don't do that unless you know who ifixit is), that would only be $84!

Regarding third party products, they sell it at MSRP. Regarding their own products, they sell it with massive profit margins.

but.. that doesnt factor in the manufacturing, engineering, the OS they specificly tailored for the device, factoring in the cost of needing to run the services behind it, factor in overhead for factory failures RMA's (because you damn well know that's gonna happen), shipping all over the world, and then still run a profit. we'll see how well you try to sell that thing below $100 ;)

apple's expensive, but they are expensive because they have expensive ways of doing things, not because they mindlessly "overprice" things.

would you consider a stack of paper with lettering on it worth $50? it only has a BoM cost of a few buck.

the thing with books is, they are quite literally a form of art, which makes them worth whatever people are willing to pay for them. is $300 a hilareously large sum? yes, absolutely. are people willing to pay that price to look like absolute snobs? yes, absolutely. are people willing to pay millions for a piece of canvas with some paint slapped onto it? yes, absolutely.

would i buy any of before mentioned objects? hell no xD

that last part doesn't includes research and development, testing time, paying coders, mass producing the watch, shipping it across the world, shipping it to the store or paying the person who sold it too you.

sold for a meager 140 million freedom coins xD

the fact of the matter is, when people are willing to pay something it is worth that.

and as for apple's actual price to bom cost ratio, it is actually not higher than similar products made by other companies, they just make very expensive stuff for people with a very expensive taste.
