you have to imagine what car would you buy when you think you can afford a 55,000USD car . (e.g. i think i will be an engineer,  30 years old , and i will be having a hour long commute to work .. when i can afford 55,000USD on a car . Which car would i buy at that point and why

If I had 55K, I would spend it on turning my Dakota into an off roadin, beastly hot rod.

55K might get a nice looking car, but it won't compare to what someone can do with a few good parts on a decent old car.

I'd look for a used GT-R R35, it's my dream car and they're dropping in price fairly rapidly at the moment, so hopefully by the time i can afford to drop 50k on a car, i can pick up a 2017 spec model, on software developers money as well.

A friend of mine had one as a daily, but it isn't quite the best. It's quite loud, the ride is a little harsher than you'd want on a daily and it's missing little creature comforts like cupholders. It's awesome, but slightly too supercar to be a daily drive. 

Not impossible, but perhaps a little too sporty.

Volvo XC90 because I'm a practical person and damn has Volvo stepped up their game with their new designs. By the time I make enough to afford 55k on a car... wife, kids ... I mean an Audi S4 or Alfa Romeo Giulia would be nice, but the XC90 sounds like a better choice in that situation.

If i could get any car, literally any car, for 55k, i'd get myself a 454 Chevelle, any year. On Hemmings i found this example from 1971, i'm pretty sure i could get a better deal somewhere else, but it serves as an example.

A muscle car for an hour long commute? No way, you want economy, comfort and a nice interior. And why on Earth would you want a huge truck? Unless you happen to be in the habit of towing stumps out of the ground, there's not justification for having one of those.

It depends on how you see it.

The Chevelle would be the "dream car" deal, a car for the weekends, something fun, a toy, not a daily. Besides, i live in a small town, i'm pretty sure i could daily a Chevelle without any problems.

But the truck, that would be a daily driver, i'm pretty sure i'll be working on the field a few years from now, so a truck with huge towing capabilities wouldn't be a bad deal for me.

I'd buy a MX-5 or a BR-Z.

 

I don't feel a need to spend any more than say $35,000 on a car and I'd rather have a slow car I can drive fast and around corners than luxury car where I'll not care about half the features and isn't really any faster or more fun.

 

I'd also keep either stock.

Now the S-Class is solid, i prefer the W140 but the W220 is just as good, if not better.

Still, 55k is waaaay too much for a W220, even here in Brazil, W220 S600s go for around what would be equivalent of 45k in the US.
