So they want phones with middling sales that only appeal to the enthusiast market and get absolutely zero attention from mainstream consumers? Cause that's what the Nexus line was. Good phones, but no one outside of the phone/tech enthusiast crowd cares about stock Android or late updates. It's all about the features and the advertising. Neither of which Nokia/HMD is likely in a potion to compete against.

Right, but there's no beating Samsung or Apple's marketing budgets, no matter who you are. Anyway, I think they meant that in the context of "lean software with fast updates", rather than phones with middling sales that only appeal to enthusiasts.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

Let's hope they can get it right this time. All the excitement and attention surrounding their comeback means the Nokia name still has plenty of brand power left, and with them being freed from Microsoft's (and symbian, though that was their own fault) shackles, everything is now in place. All they have to do is to build their flagship properly this year and market it well.

Old Nokia fan here, if they make a model with a good chip like SD 820 or SD835 that is built well and has a good camera, then I will buy it even if it cost 700€

The battery is glued in, but there are also pull tabs to safely remove the battery without getting glue everywhere. At least, in the Nokia 6, anyway.

I'm beginning to think the Nokia 6 should've had a SD625 or newer chip. Can Android updates be bound to certain SoCs? The SD430 is not the latest in the 400 series and is already more than a year old.

yes they can, one of the major reasons why older devices don't get updated is because qualcomm doesn't want to release driver for older chipsets

Remember that most of the excitement comes from the tech enthusiast community - we are the VERY SMALL minority of users here, and even here it's not a consensus.

 

Nokia is going to have trouble getting mainstream appeal. Good marketing will help, but how will they set themselves apart or above other manufacturers that have deeper advertising budgets?

 

Remember that Google hasn't agreed to Nokia's proposals yet.
